I think that photo was taken outside the Albert Road gate to the Dockyard probably around the 1951 elections. When elections were being held Michael Foot in particular would hold meetings outside the Yard at lunch times and on Saturdays . In those days the Yard had a lunch break of an hour and a half giving plenty of time for a meeting. Another spot was outside St Levans Gate on a bombsite which backed on to the old Gas Works. I was an apprentice at the time and remember how well Michael Foot handled those meetings while standing on a soap box. Great entertainment particularly when part of the crowd emerged partly oiled from a session in the Pub on the opposite corner.Cracking photo that. Never seen it before.
I was in all four of those at different timesThe fours Houses at my old school were Smeaton, Rudyard, Winstanley and Douglas, all Lighthouses on the Eddystone. I was in Smeaton.
