Don't understand all of the "He won't fit our system" comments.

A squad needs different options, and Mason would provide one, a very good one.

Give him a months trial to see if he still has it, he has something to prove, would be the best option imo. He is not in great demand it would seem.

The main questions to be answered are would he want to come here and has he been tempted by the financial package offered ?

Maybe it's not just about the money?

He's 27. He should be hitting peak but his career has stalled a little of late. If he came here he would be getting games and playing.

Look at what Adams has done for the careers of Carey, Jervis, Bradley, Ruben, Ladapo, Songo'o plus there's doubtless others. They were all journey man who weren't wanted by other clubs and he's turned them around.

Perhaps Mason sees that happening to him here...his home?

Maybe the reason behind having a slow window knowing that funds will be needed if Joe didn’t get a offer elsewhere.

Playing just behind Ladapo with Carey and Ruben wide would be decent. Maybe a routine middle CM of Sarcevic and Oscar allowing Fox and Songo’o to play more defensive match’s when needed or as cover.

Obviously dependent on him actually signing first.

Obviously a front four of Ladapo/Taylor, Carey, Mason and Lamieras would be formidable but I think we also have to bear in mind that it is not at all unlikely that at some point we will lose one or more of our current key attacking players. So as much as anything I think this signing would be a case of making the squad more resilient to future losses. It's notable that the report is not that Adams is trying to get Mason to come here of the rest of this season but, rather, that he is getting to come here BEYOND the end of the season.

Covering the value of the deal.

He knows that a good 6 month and Joe will be onto something else. At least having another year would protect the investment somewhat.

Now onto Ruben please Adams

It worked when Mickey Evans came ‘home’ so why not for Joe Mason? No brainier!!
Would be nice if he did come back and replicate anything such as Trigger did in his second spell, when he was a revelation. Their stories are quite similar, home grown strikers, who showed promise and got good moves to play at a higher level but have had injuries. Mase would be a great addition, a real poacher and very good in the air for a striker who isn't especially tall, hope it happens.

There's a recent pattern of youth players returning, Sheridan brought back Reuben Reid and Luke McCormick and so far Adams has brought back Gary Sawyer (his first signing), Christian Walton, Lloyd Jones and maybe Joe Mason.

Will Isaac Vassell return next season? :)

True, though you'd like to think Mason coming here in itself would be a positive signal to those players to stay. Combined with the prospect of the grandstand, it could well be that one of Carey and Lameiras sees this as a club going places and worth staying at.

I would like to see the club offer Mason a 12 month contract, and try to get Oscar back on a permanent deal, if we can keep Lameras and Lloyd Jones Freddie and Carey that would be a mouthwatering squad for next season..
