Edwards is normally the last man anyway. Cooper became an extra man trying unsuccessfully to get an equaliser. We had lost 2 1.. 3 1 would haven't a made a difference 2 2 would have. At least he gave it a go!
Fair enough smudja, I surrender!! 🏳️

I'm just making too much of Swaz's post: 'He's a goalkeeper not a centre forward.'

We can look at all the tactics in the world.

The defining thing about football is money. Unfortunately. It never use to be this bad in league one, but then clubs weren’t spending what they do now on players.

Just to think in the championship we spent £500,000 on Maclean. And that’s still our record signing.

Now in 2022, Portsmouth spend £600,000 on an Accrington forward. And this doesn’t even guarantee they may make a playoff birth this season.

Thats where we are with the financial situation. Yet god help the Cheltenham, Accrington, Morecambe, Cambridge’s of this world.

lol, when a budget is four times bigger l’m afraid it is so difficult to overcome in the final standings of a league table. There will be the things you can tactically do to make you better organised but if the opposition simply have better players on the pitch (because they have more money) then not much you do if they execute their game plan.

Im not talking about a one off like Brighton against Man Utd today. I’m talking over a 46 game season. Eventually that is going to tell.

You look at the Premier league. Same teams always at the top unless a club becomes owned by a country like Qatar.

Man Utd we’re awful last season. Still finished 6th even with so much incompetence. If Argyle were run as badly in league one we would be fighting relegation.

Edwards is perhaps the fastest runner in side too which is why he sits back and let's others go ahead.. no need for a surrender Pogs 👍

Sunderland had a £28m playing budget in their first season in League One and failed to get promotion. The parachute payments maintained a similar level for their second season and they still didn’t get promotion. Inevitably they had to financially adjust and eventually got promoted with a wage bill less than 25% of what it was when they first got relegated.

whilst there is a strong correlation with wage bill, and performance it is not an absolute. Argyle’s strategy of being smarter is a strategy that eventually can reap rewards as Brentford have illustrated. We have yet to see that strategy pay dividends in terms of transfer income but it will and that will be our best way of bridging the financial gap with some of our rivals.

It may do.

But for example we may lose our best players for peanuts. Camara situation really shows the power is never with the clubs, but with the player.

One of best players. And once he goes lm not sure how we place him.

Lets take Cooper. A guy underrated in terms of how many matches he won for us last season. Say we get a few million for him, we got to replace him with someone who fits in our wage structure. It’s going to be very difficult to replace a player who won us so many points.

I think we can become a strong yo-yo club over time between league 1 and the championship. Like Rotherham and Peterborough are. After that, l think it will be very difficult without someone wanting to pump a lot of money in the club, like a Lansdown for Bristol City.

Maybe that's why the new Americans with their £4m are using it to improve the training facilities, stadium, infrastructure etc to make it a very attractive proposition for a much bigger investor long term.

It’s going to have to be one hell of an investment. Look at how much Lansdown has pumped into Bristol City and see where that gets you in the championship.

Dont get me wrong. It’s good to have ambitions and dreams.

Everyone will say look at Luton. But once Nathan Jones goes they will slide because he is excelling beyond their budget. Just like Huddersfield with Carlos Corberan. Competed way beyond their budget. They had to sell their best players. He left because he knew the task of repeating that feat was impossible.

A great manager can maybe take a club up the league table. Make them perform beyond their means. But to sustain it and keeping losing your best players is very tough especially if your fans think you can do it again next season.

Agree. A canny manager will always make the team 'greater than the sum of its parts'

The owner Andy Pilley bankrolls the club through loans.
At the last accounts for Fleetwood they made losses of £20m and owe their owner £21m.

Last season Fleetwood had the second lowest average attendance in L1 at 3,228, nearly 10, 000 less than us.

But how do they do that through SCMP.?? In league 1 clubs have a max 60% of turnover relating to match day income on wages to be spent.
