Take your average Plymouthian Argyle fan who works hard, well respected by his/her employers and earns a decent wage. Another company comes in and offers him/her three times his salary and a company car but he has to relocate to Nottingham. What would most of us do?

Always makes me laugh how when a fans' favourite leaves (or is set to) then suddenly it's "he's not Championship standard"; "he can't shoot"; "he was schitt anyway" etc.

I think the timing is clever. If we are going to maximise, it is likely to be in the close season. Also if the likes of Sunderland or others still in play-offs are interested, it might panic them into an offer as they won’t want to miss their man.

I must admit l like the notion we will replace with better.

On one hand we are saying he must be worth ÂŁ500,000 and yet where do you find better than him for our budget. Will be a hell of a player especially on a free transfer.

This guy runs all day. He breaks up play. He sets up most of Argyle’s counter attacks. He is the only one in a 3 man midfield (when it’s been him, Major & Houghton) who can tackle. The SKY at home game that finished 0-0 he had double the number of tackles of anyone on the pitch. And we seen how combative Sunderland are.

Yes his finishing isn’t the best. Or maybe his crossing. Yet when we rave about Major doing a trick to beat someone, this guy was winning the ball back time and time again to give Major that opportunity.

The whole talk is he can be replaced. We said this when Bradley left after we finished 7th that season. The problem is finding that level of quality. Let’s remember both these players were very good and still didn’t get us into the playoffs. Now we have to replace Camara and find better on our budget.

This is a sizeable task because every Argyle fan next season hopes to see improvement but when your most important outfield player leaves and you have to replace (and find more quality to improve the squad) l think it will be interesting summer ahead.

Not saying it can’t be done. But this guy was miles better than many in our squad in terms of his affect on the outcome of our games. That’s why lm more gutted about losing him. Money we get back on him may not replace what he gave to our team.

I hate to be negative, but we aren’t going up next season.
We have just had what felt like a spectacular season and didn’t even make the playoffs.
Camara is likely going, I’ll bet Cooper attracts a bid or two too good to turn down, so that’s the engine and the handbrake gone. We simply won’t afford like for like replacements - they’re Championship players and we just had 40+ games out of them. It will be as nasty as trying to find replacements for Sonny Bradley and Zak Vyner, and ending up with Scott Wootton and Niall Canavan. Ashley Smith Brown and Tafari Moore instead of Gary Sawyer and Oscar Threlkeld - a defence ordered on Wish.
We’ll try and find as best we can, but to improve on what’s departing? Forget it.
We just need to trust the process, identify potential, invest in young talent, seek out the players with attributes that fit in our system.
If Camara goes, we’ll have paid next to nothing for a player, had two great seasons out of him and sold him for a profit. We can’t be bitter about that, Camara has more than upheld his side of the deal and has clubs lining up to throw money at him.

Now where is the next raw 22 year old with outstanding potential ready to dominate League One?
I’d really like to know what went so badly wrong between season 2017-18 and 2018-2019. The recruitment was really appalling - not forgetting to mention joe Riley ( who looked really good- until the season actually kicked off!) Matt Macey and Stuart o Keefe.

One thing will always be the same- people will always try to sign players from a successful Argyle side- whether it be Norris, Buzsacky, SEB or Camara...

But I do think things may be different these days. If we end up signing 6 or 7 players this summer..... who’s to say they won’t be of good quality ? Recent recruitment has been strong...... and perhaps we’ll see a few gems amongst them ?

What went wrong is we had unrealistic expectations due to what actual budget we had.

We signed players who we could afford. Like Ladapo. Hoping they would turn into something like he did. The problem was your can’t keep polishing a rock and expect every time for it to sparkle. And In our case that season, combined with a negative mindset of our manager, they showed us what type of rocks they were.

Now we expect to sign better players than we have, when we can’t even afford to hold onto our best players.

Im afraid it’s called unrealistic expectations that drive us to make up scenarios not based on the financial realities of where Argyle are. It’s not defeatist. It’s not negative. It’s just unfortunately the reality of our situation.

This is simply ridiculous. You have no idea what the club is prepared to let him go for. They’re not trying to offload him at any cost. They’re offering other clubs a chance to sign him knowing that he will attract plenty of interest and likely generate a significant return on investment that can then be used to bring in the next player or two. It’s very sound business and the best way to build the quality of the squad over time.
So why announce he is on the transfer list rather than just keep quiet and wait for the bids to come in.
If no acceptable bids come in will Camara still be picked to play for Argyle next season?

Any good player who doesn't want to stay or play for pafc, is disappointing news, he is good, but we have to and will move on, it's the harsh world of football, but we must move on and get another gem like Camara, they are out there

And while his finishing isn't the best he scored more goals this season than Mayor, whilst doing everything else you mentioned.

This thread seems to have gone down a narrow route based on responses to the headline rather than the article itself, which is far more speculative. Good click bait by the Herald.

When will season ticket sales need a boost?

I honestly think it’ll be a wrong move for him in terms of development and game time.

Can’t blame him if he’s offered double/triple his wage but it’s a shame.

‘Deep sigh’. …. Next

Every fan loves a player who shows a bit of passion and gets around the pitch making tackles and running with the ball like Pan does. However the Coaches of other sides will be much tougher judges of his strengths and weaknesses and what he is worth.
We bumped into Craig Short (Oxford’s assistant manager) at Exeter Services after our recent match against them and when asked which of our players they’d been concerned about beforehand, he named Hardie and Pan - about whom he said “We just couldn’t cope with him”.

Admittedly only a sample of one but an indication of how at least one other club’s coaches rate him.

Not sure how the article is speculative. Unless l missed something?

Reading the responses l thought this thread is more to us losing a very good player than any headline.

Offical club statement saying (one of our best) player is looking to move on and the club are looking to transfer him this summer. How is that click bait? Surely this is the article people are responding too?

l guess l don’t understand how the chat forums work as l thought this thread was about the club statement.

How many of our best players has the club allowed to leave on a free transfer after they have allowed them to run down their respective contracts - Sonny, GC10 & Ruben come to mind

Our club now has a different culture & Pan was given substantial time to make is decision- the club should not be strung along & despite numerous conversations between Pan, Agent & management no contract extension signature was forthcoming- so the club have made their decision

For all we know there could be a ready made replacement in the background

Our club plans seasons in advance in respect of player recruitment - they want guarantees that all the players contracted are committed - they do not want an unsettled player in the dressing room, they do not want him putting in a transfer request in January knowing he only has 6 months left - so they have ripped the band aid off giving other clubs the green light to make an approach

How many EFL Clubs will have the spending clout to reach Argyle's evaluation of him - if you take the fan's emotional attachment out of it - the club are looking after themselves
Football evolves & football is a business- our management team have been in the game long enough to know the calibre of player they need & now much those types of players cost

I have faith they will get what they are looking for & they will get the evaluation price for Pan- but remember the fee we get will be undisclosed as that is the way Argyle conduct their player business
