Iâd really like to know what went so badly wrong between season 2017-18 and 2018-2019. The recruitment was really appalling - not forgetting to mention joe Riley ( who looked really good- until the season actually kicked off!) Matt Macey and Stuart o Keefe.I hate to be negative, but we arenât going up next season.
We have just had what felt like a spectacular season and didnât even make the playoffs.
Camara is likely going, Iâll bet Cooper attracts a bid or two too good to turn down, so thatâs the engine and the handbrake gone. We simply wonât afford like for like replacements - theyâre Championship players and we just had 40+ games out of them. It will be as nasty as trying to find replacements for Sonny Bradley and Zak Vyner, and ending up with Scott Wootton and Niall Canavan. Ashley Smith Brown and Tafari Moore instead of Gary Sawyer and Oscar Threlkeld - a defence ordered on Wish.
Weâll try and find as best we can, but to improve on whatâs departing? Forget it.
We just need to trust the process, identify potential, invest in young talent, seek out the players with attributes that fit in our system.
If Camara goes, weâll have paid next to nothing for a player, had two great seasons out of him and sold him for a profit. We canât be bitter about that, Camara has more than upheld his side of the deal and has clubs lining up to throw money at him.
Now where is the next raw 22 year old with outstanding potential ready to dominate League One?

One thing will always be the same- people will always try to sign players from a successful Argyle side- whether it be Norris, Buzsacky, SEB or Camara...
But I do think things may be different these days. If we end up signing 6 or 7 players this summer..... whoâs to say they wonât be of good quality ? Recent recruitment has been strong...... and perhaps weâll see a few gems amongst them ?
So why announce he is on the transfer list rather than just keep quiet and wait for the bids to come in.This is simply ridiculous. You have no idea what the club is prepared to let him go for. Theyâre not trying to offload him at any cost. Theyâre offering other clubs a chance to sign him knowing that he will attract plenty of interest and likely generate a significant return on investment that can then be used to bring in the next player or two. Itâs very sound business and the best way to build the quality of the squad over time.
And while his finishing isn't the best he scored more goals this season than Mayor, whilst doing everything else you mentioned.I must admit l like the notion we will replace with better.
On one hand we are saying he must be worth ÂŁ500,000 and yet where do you find better than him for our budget. Will be a hell of a player especially on a free transfer.
This guy runs all day. He breaks up play. He sets up most of Argyleâs counter attacks. He is the only one in a 3 man midfield (when itâs been him, Major & Houghton) who can tackle. The SKY at home game that finished 0-0 he had double the number of tackles of anyone on the pitch. And we seen how combative Sunderland are.
Yes his finishing isnât the best. Or maybe his crossing. Yet when we rave about Major doing a trick to beat someone, this guy was winning the ball back time and time again to give Major that opportunity.
The whole talk is he can be replaced. We said this when Bradley left after we finished 7th that season. The problem is finding that level of quality. Letâs remember both these players were very good and still didnât get us into the playoffs. Now we have to replace Camara and find better on our budget.
This is a sizeable task because every Argyle fan next season hopes to see improvement but when your most important outfield player leaves and you have to replace (and find more quality to improve the squad) l think it will be interesting summer ahead.
Not saying it canât be done. But this guy was miles better than many in our squad in terms of his affect on the outcome of our games. Thatâs why lm more gutted about losing him. Money we get back on him may not replace what he gave to our team.
We bumped into Craig Short (Oxfordâs assistant manager) at Exeter Services after our recent match against them and when asked which of our players theyâd been concerned about beforehand, he named Hardie and Pan - about whom he said âWe just couldnât cope with himâ.Every fan loves a player who shows a bit of passion and gets around the pitch making tackles and running with the ball like Pan does. However the Coaches of other sides will be much tougher judges of his strengths and weaknesses and what he is worth.
