Camara made available for transfer

Easy option? You sure? Surely easy option would be let him stay for the next season then lose him for nothing next summer.

Best of doing it this way then we get some money for him.

Imho the braver option would be to keep the team together for another year (or at least the best players still under contract like Camara), look to add 2 or 3 quality additions and aim for promotion.

The easy option would be to cash in.

History repeating itself?

Shame to see him go but totally understandable for him. I genuinely hope he gets a good move and goes to play higher.

Sensible move by Argyle. No one wants a team member that is unsettled. Get some cash in now and use it to build a midfield to challenge top 6.

This is the sign of a well-functioning club - bringing in a player of high potential, getting a good couple of years out of them with both Argyle and the player progressing nicely, then banking a healthy profit that we reinvest

I'm sure we'll get a good fee for Pan. He's young enough that the buying club can be confident of making their money back, and he's a top player whose attributes will be just as pronounced in the championship... acceleration, ball-winning, energy.

There's bound to be a lot of interest.

Justin that is plain naive. From Xmas 2022 Pan would be free to chat to other clubs, if he gets promised 20k a week plus a nice signing on fee - what guarantee do we have that we will see the 100% guy we see every Saturday now, he wouldn't be the first or last to turn it in and preserve themselves.
By Argyle going public, it creates the opportunity for clubs his agent hasn't contacted to know he is available. The best thing for us is 3 or 4 clubs clambering to sign him, that gives us the best opportunity to get our best deal possible.
It's not perfect, the transfer system isn't, the club have to play the game, same as agents and players.
Of course a fully committed Pan giving his all, for a full season injury free would be fantastic, but we get no promises or guarantees with this wish.

But from the outside the impression is of a well-run club building for the future, not the Argyle of 18 (?) years ago when Holloway had his head turned and all the best players followed him out the door, just as we were on the crest of something magical.

This, first with Lowe having his head turned by a mid-level club only one tier above, and now this - being bullied into taking a no doubt cut-price fee (we don't hold the negotiating power since only one year left on contract) for one of our key players, is showing eery, albeit early, signs of being reminiscent of the ill-fated Stapleton-surrender.

Kind of feels to me like the opposite - that the club are demonstrating a lack of backbone.

A key player has a year to go on his contract. A whole season.

But they're taking the easy option and getting rid of him, prepared to let him go for a fraction of what he's worth.

Just reeks of small-mindedness.
This is simply ridiculous. You have no idea what the club is prepared to let him go for. They’re not trying to offload him at any cost. They’re offering other clubs a chance to sign him knowing that he will attract plenty of interest and likely generate a significant return on investment that can then be used to bring in the next player or two. It’s very sound business and the best way to build the quality of the squad over time.

You’re being a bit dramatic here Justin.

Fans get emotionally attached to players- but football is a business & Argyle have to protect themselves
Argyle probably knew weeks ago how the situation with Pan would develop & no doubt in the background they have identified possible targets if & when Pan moves on
I would rather Argyle were in control of the situation instead of being left high & dry by a player who either strings us along promising to sign a contract or leaves at the end of his contract for nothing
This way the club are in control & it should be applauded
But Argyle aren’t in control, they are waiting for a Club to make an offer that they find acceptable and Camara to accept the personal terms.
If that doesn’t happen will Argyle still pick Camara for matches.
If a Club had already made an offer wouldn’t Argyle have said something along the lines of reluctantly due to the contract situation we felt in the best interest of the Club to accept the offer of….
The announcement today suggests Argyle will take whatever is offered.

What fee would you say was 'sound business'?

We hold zero negotiating cards - one year to go on his contract and now a public statement that he can leave. The whole episode has somewhat bizarrely been carried out in public. Even the fact that we offered him a contract extension. Presumably to send a message to his agent. It's just a very very amateur way to do business.

There's no way we'll get a realistic price now.

And where do we get the money to add 2 or 3 quality options? Makes little sense.

The unbudgeted windfalls, including the cup run, for starters.

Are you saying we're not in a position to sign anyone then, in the summer months?

Even though Schumacher has announced that our budget for next season has increased?

Makes little sense.

Why do people say ‘only one year left on the contract’? How often do we, or other L1 clubs give more than a two year contract these days. Can’t remember the last time Argyle did. One year left is as good as it gets to cash in.

In Shuey we trust, Cammy has proved a great asset to the team. Hope we can benefit from a large transfer fee. Thank you Panny.

So how much do you think quality additions cost these days? You haven't thought it through.
