I understand why he might not have had much game time so far but it seems a bit pointless to sign a player like Earley as (presumably) 'one for the future' and not be planning to play him in the future. Surely he is penciled in as either first or second choice left wing-back next season. Otherwise, why he is at Argyle? But then the same could be said about Miller (first choice presumably if fit).It will be interesting to see who emerges as our left wing backs with Miller Earley Wright and Endacott.More than enough there to explain why Grant wasn’t offered a contract but nobody offering what Mumba offers. At least there is a place up for grabs.May the best men win.
I find it interesting that Earley was at Norwich from the age of 9 and captained their under 18 and under 23 sides - in the latter case I presume he was captaining a side that quite often had Bali Mumba in it. So, although Earley didn't break through into the first team he was obviously very well regarded at Carrow Road for many years (Mumba has made 5 first-team appearances for Norwich).
It remains to be seen whether Earley is good enough for the Championship but I feel that the Argyle recruitment team must have crunched the numbers and judged that he could be. I expect him to be a regular in the match-day squad next season.
