One of the stated aims of the Hallett regime was to develop players, either from our academy or adult recruits, and sell them for a profit. When it was just a theory, almost everyone thought this was a good idea. The first time the theory gets put into practice, many state that the player concerned is irreplacable and should be kept for a further season despite the probability of him then leaving for nothing. Anything beyond the short term tends to go out of the window for many football fans.
If the clubs Pan is being linked to are actually the ones interested (and they probably aren't), then I do wonder how much we might be offered, and whether the fuss is worthwhile. Many thought he might attract interest from top-half championship teams, and if a few of these got involved then an auction might ensue. Clubs, particularly outside the top flight, tend to spend good money if they are confident of a mega profit when he is sold again. Is a wealthier League one club really going to splash big cash on a 25 year old who will be a free agent in a year, and who towards the end of his next contract (at 27/28) is unlikely to bring in big bucks?
