Slightly off topic but interesting that Garrick has signed for Lincoln on loan. Whittaker is a very similar player from the same club, in that he can play up front or out wide. Indicates that maybe Schuey sees Whittaker as an upgrade on Garrick? It’ll be interesting to see how they both get on this season.

Yeh let’s not stress , 4 goals 10 games , problem not solved yet again, but hey ho,new training facilities on the distance horizon.
Why stress over last seasons ending?
Its been and gone!
Why stress over two league games and a pointless cup match?
Seriously, it will all come good in the end

It would be funny to look back at posts from Feb/March when almost every thread celebrated the unprecedented quality options that Argyle had up front.

Three of those four players are still here and it looks like Azaz is going to offer much more of a goal threat than we previously had from midfield.

Let’s maybe give it more than two league games?

we should have signed a proper striker not us whitiker a winger as one and jephcott as a cam wtf are we doing with this "bigger budget" can't have all gone on the big tv and new seats.

Dim janners love shiny things but bloody hell.
There seems to be one ‘dim janner’ on this thread who keeps conflating a playing budget and a completely separate budget for the ground and infrastructure. Do you think we would have had £4m from the Americans to blob on one or two players? Or do you think that’s a strategy investment for longer term growth of the club? It’s not a hard one to work out - even for us ‘dim janners’.

On first impressions I'd bite your hand off to swap Garrick back in especially considering he could play wing back too and cover a couple of positions. Albeit a game and 20 mins I've seen of him I haven't seen a anything to excite me about Whitaker.

Obviously I hope to be proved wrong but I'm not convinced by the current formation of only one genuine striker on the pitch or the lack of a signing of an additional striker.
It feels as though its reliance on Hardie with Azaz contributing a few goals and Ennis the back up option. Mayor, Edwards and Randell will also add a few over the season but that's not a recipe for a netfull of goals in my opinion.

I've now looked at the second half against Peterborough twice, and specifically at the opportunities Azaz had. I think he needs targeted time on the training field to tweak his finishing technique. As his foot connects with the ball, his shoulders go back and his head lifts, resulting in the ball taking an upward trajectory. You can talk all you like about budgets, but coaching from existing staff doesn't cost extra. I believe this quite minor tweak could take this lad from extremely good to extra-special.

I am open to changing my mind if you are prepared to offer facts to counter my opinion.
OK.
1) You said our defence was “rubbish”.
The players are all professional footballers, and none of them are rubbish.
2) You referred to some of our strikers as “so-called” and said they do not score goals.
They ARE strikers and they do all score goals.
Any change in your view?

Yes, lm very excited about seeing a new formation after 3 years only seeing one formation which was 3-1-4-2.

l’m excited because last few seasons l’ve seen the better teams and the more physical teams eg Wycombe constantly beat us with ease.

Ive seen us go away to Sunderland, Ipswich, Wigan, Rotherham, Sheffield Wednesday and be either battered by these sides or not look like we are going to score. Or both.

So l’m excited that we have a different option. Whether that option works only time will tell.

However, lm excited more by the offield situation. Unlike most where they are looking at the championship l‘m looking at league one and actually trying to become established as a top side in this league first. A walk before we can run scenario. We can only compete better with teams in this league by improving off the field. Which should help us on the field.

I said before the season started there would no doubt be teething problems with a new system. And most fans can see that there is. I’m pretty relaxed about it because we won’t know if this system can make us better for another few months. People on here seem to think 8 weeks training with a new system and everything clicks.

As for strengthening l’ve not been calling for it. But as the discussion was raised about a new forward l said seeing we are playing one forward and two attack8ng midfielders then ld rather have another option there.

Why on earth should we be near the playoffs? You have Ipswich, Derby, Bolton, Peterborough, Sheffield Wednesday, Portsmouth etc…. we two, three or even four times our budget.

Im just being realistic and positive. If you can be.

Last season we were very fortunate to get 80 points. Even our chairman said the results weren’t convincing. So if you don’t want to take my word ask yourself why even he said this. And he is a very reasonable person. I just don’t think we have the quality in depth. Look at Sheffield Wednesday for example. They took two of Rotherham’s best players after being promoted.

Other teams spend more than us. For example Ipswich, Portsmouth & Bolton. They finished lower than us last season. That’s why l don’t think we will get in the playoffs as over 46 games their squad will be stronger.
Agree 100%. Of course I want us to be competitive but realistically I don't see us getting promotion this year. The investment in club facilities is part of a long term plan. I wish the government took a similar approach, then maybe we wouldn't be in the mess we are now. SH for PM!

1. Rubbish for this division, poor or well below standard if you prefer.
2. Edwards also scores a few goals but is not employed as a striker.
You are obviously easily pleased.

Yep, if you said “below standard for this division” then it would be fair comment in my opinion; but the use of words like “rubbish” and “useless” suggests to me that the person using them knows very little about the professional game.

Just as a matter of opinion do you ever think the referee and /or his Assistants are ever rubbish or useless. I am an ex referee and not afraid to criticise where in my eyes it is warranted.
