We talk about infrastructure helping us. Its not like clubs with better playing budgets are standing still.

Portsmouth is prime example. They are refurbishing Fratton Park which can only help their turn over.

That unfortunately is what we up against. We might become financially stronger but so are other teams already in a better position than us.

The Fleetwood keeper played in green so potential clash there.
Surely all the other 23 clubs in League One will have made provision for playing Argyle twice in a season, with at least one of those fixtures involving playing a team in predominately green? Even if his team are at home it will always be the goalkeeper who changes if there is a clash.

Does refurbishment without increased capacity help turnover?

So lets resign ourselves to staying put because we cannot compete financially! SH set a five year plan to make it to the Championship and we seem to be on track.
We will always be competing against wealthier clubs,
that 's life, but this defeatist attitude surprises even me!

Is it helpful to constantly bang on about our relatively small budget, and the constraints it puts on us? Yes, it's an obvious major disadvantage, but it is what it is. In any other walk of life is it helpful to continually emphasise weaknesses in what you are trying to achieve? On the whole, it isn't - it's actually better to accentuate the positives whilst remaining realistic.

We're in this league because we have proved over recent seasons that we ought to be of a reasonably similar standard to the other teams in L1. We have to use our positive attributes and, in Mr Hallett's words "be more clever", in order to overcome any disadvantages we face.

I don't expect us to win every game, or to win the league. What I do expect is for us to use the resources at our disposal efficiently, and to exude a positive mindset. It won't be enough every week, but there isn't any reason why we cannot prevail more often than we fail.

It can do in lots of indirect ways, as with Argyle pre-2020 and post-2020 more people are attracted to spend an afternoon in nice surroundings than unpleasant surroundings. And a quick look at Pompey's refurbishment shows extra bars and hospitality bits. Though I must admit the actual ground doesn't look that much different...

Without any doubt extra facilities and more things to do DOES increase attendance.

Totally agree. 👍

Where are all these extra facilities and things to do for those of us on the Lyndhurst.
All this talk of extra this and that sounds a bit like the story of the Emperor’s new clothes because I’m not seeing them.

Last time I was in the Lyndhurst (last winter I think) it was a total transformation from when I'd last been in there. Flat screen TVs, new bars, retail kiosk and branding up and down the concourse. And contactless payment implemented too, which makes things easier and modern and helps queues... though aware there are still issues with that, from other threads.

Is that not the case?

It’s going to have to be one hell of an investment. Look at how much Lansdown has pumped into Bristol City and see where that gets you in the championship.

Dont get me wrong. It’s good to have ambitions and dreams.

Everyone will say look at Luton. But once Nathan Jones goes they will slide because he is excelling beyond their budget. Just like Huddersfield with Carlos Corberan. Competed way beyond their budget. They had to sell their best players. He left because he knew the task of repeating that feat was impossible.

A great manager can maybe take a club up the league table. Make them perform beyond their means. But to sustain it and keeping losing your best players is very tough especially if your fans think you can do it again next season.
If I was a Bristol City fan I would be really impressed how Steve Lansdowne has invested heavily in the facilities at Ashton Gate. City even managed to receive transfer income of an eye watering £52m in transfer in one season. Whilst they have been close a couple of times where they are failing is to match that investment and transfer income strategy is with a team management strategy - their choice of manager always seems to be knee jerk reactionary rather than to a committed plan. I can't help thinking that if they had that they would be a Premiership team now.

On the other point in this tread - the SCMP for League One and Two was abandoned after the EFL tried to impose total salary caps, instead, that bore no relation to turnover. From memory I think the League One cap was £2.5m - but the PFA successfully were able to claim it was illegal. Ironically, if the reports are correct Argyle would have complied more or less with the proposed cap of £2.5m. They were right to oppose it and instead have a self-imposed percentage of turnover in line with their financial principles.

To be fair I don’t know the protocol in the EFL but in the Premier League the home GK is not obligated to change his registered kit to suit the opposition except as a last resort. For instance, a club having a yellow home GK kit do not have to change it to play Wolves at home. Wolves must change their outfield strip. Only if the referee isn’t happy with a clash using 2nd and 3rd strips will he ask the home GK to change.

Of course it is, Clive has an agenda.
