Will we be raided in January?

He’s what the gaffer had to say on this matter.

Schumacher said: "Can I answer that one Andrew? Ryan can come for our players but he has to pay the same price as everybody else. That's how it is.

"Our players are good footballers and they are going to attract attention from clubs who would be interested in them, and Preston will be no different to anybody else.

"The players will have a value and if they want them they will have to pay."
Schumacher then looked across to Parkinson and said: "Is that alright? The Argyle CEO smiled and replied: 'Yeah, very good."
Worrying.

"If they want them they will have to pay".

That's defeatist and admits inferiority.

He could quash any talk of player sales by instead promoting squad unity and the players' commitment to Argyle. He could suggest that perhaps the players are happy where they are, even use it as a chance to boost morale by suggesting the players can aim higher than Preston. Instead, it allows rumours and conjecture that the players can't wait to follow Lowe up North to a barely average Championship club.

It's just a business / finance answer, and a poor one at that.

Where's the ambition? If it's not coming from the Manager, what hope have the players got?

What are you on, Justin? You do not understand football at all.

If a Club wants a player from a lower league then the player will probably want to leave to further his career, knowing that he will also benefit financially. That is the object of a football player - to play as high up the league as he can.

If a bid is made for one of our players then the player will be informed, and if he is in agreement with the move then it will be down to both Clubs to thrash out compensation for the release of the player. There is no reason for the Club to keep the player until his contract runs out, which is when he will then be able to go on a free. Far better to get a fee before the contract runs out than wait for the end of his contract.

There is no reason to deny the player from advancing his career. The player will be in no fit state of mind to give of his best to the Club if his request to leave is denied.

In fact Clubs can talk to players who are within 6 months of their contract ending.

You are confusing ambition with reality, I'm afraid.

Last thing you need in a dressing room is an unhappy player- one bad apple could totally disrupt the harmony in a tight knit dressing room
If it is mutual between the player & the club that the player wants to leave why not take the money if our evaluation has been met
It's the way football is- if players do leave we will never know how much we will receive because our transfer activities always seem undisclosed

If you want you could have a manager who says players are going nowhere and their gone the next day, bit like a manager we all know.

Surely it’s a benefit to the club if we have players whose ambition to play at a higher level exceeds the ability of their club to get there quickly enough for them. In the third tier we have to accept that we will always be a stepping stone for more ambitious players and managers, that’s how the whole thing works. Schuey’s right though, the club’s task is to get a fair payment for them.

It’s a hypothetical situation, is it not?

This is a gift of an opportunity to send a message that everyone is focused on the job at hand, promotion, rather than having their heads turned.

It’s a chance to put it out there that Argyle are not going to allow their squad to ripped get apart in January - dangerous echoes here of January 2008.

Preston are just a few places above us in the league ladder, and could easily be below us this time next year, if we keep our best players, and exude the right level of ambition.

We should be aiming for promotion this season.

Or has everyone given up on that already?

Our players will do what is best for their career & family- if an opportunity arises why can't they take it
I would rather we have a happy tight knit dressing room than players who are blocked by the management & told they cannot leave - this will create a extremely toxic environment & undo the exceptional team spirit we currently have.
The management come across as extremely reasonable & will do what is best for the club- if an offer comes in & it is exceptable for both player & club - the player will go with our blessing & our bank balance will increase
This is now football is - think of it as Joe Bloggs on the street applying for a better job & getting it- they hand in their notice, serve it & then move onto their new workplace

If a player wants to go then so be it . But for a fair price, exactly what Shuey is saying. Where’s the confusion?

Semantics.

The medium affects the message.

It’s a public declaration, not a private conversation. 2 very different things.

In public, the manager needs to be delivering positive messages - about the football itself, player morale, ambition, focusing on restoring form and improving performances - not jumping in and answering hypothetical questions about player sales when they’re directed at the chief exec.

Unless it‘s to reinforce a message of squad unity. This just did the opposite.

Exactly, Harry Kane being a current example. Would Spurs have been better to take the huge transfer fee he would have commanded in the summer? Would Man Utd have been better to take the huge fee they could have got for Pogba 12 months ago?
In Argyle's case I don't think Lowe would be interested in any apart from possibly Grant or maybe Camara and either would see us make a decent profit. Cooper I'm not so sure about. PNE have a decent 24 year old keeper with 16 Danish U21 caps to his name and good Championship experience so it wouldn't appear to be a priority for them.
The main thing is they are all under contract and will cost Preston or any other club.
Who’s unhappy?
Ref Mutley's comment you deal in hypotheticals Justin so it shouldn't be difficult to understand. IF a player was kept here against his will in January it COULD upset the harmony of the dressing room.

The object of this season, and possibly every season, is to finish as high up the table as we can. We take each game as it comes and see where that takes us at the end of the season. Talk about promotion is putting pressure on players and staff. The only certain promotion is by finishing up in the top two, but I think that ship has passed.

As for blocking players from moving, the Club cannot and will not stand in the way of a players career. That would be self defeating.

P.S. Preston are in a league above us, not just a few places above us in the league.

Probably on the wrong thread- but with the opening of the transfer window just over two weeks away - I don’t see a thread on incomings.

I’d like us to take a look at big mobile striker Georgie Kelly, 25- leading goalscorer in the league of Ireland. Reportedly he has just informed Bohemians he will be leaving- because of the different format in the league of Ireland is currently out of contract.

There is the suggestion of an interest from Pompey.( unconfirmed).

Kelly himself has ruled out a move to EFL2 and Scotland ( I assume he means below the SPL ?).

Complication is that he wants to finish his masters in environmental managemen- but I’m sure we could try to accommodate these ambitions.

Obviously there is a big step up from LOI to EFL1 but I like what I’ve seen of him ( albeit highlights of Bohemians games)- and this is the sort of “punt” I would like to see Argyle take.... perhaps with an option to terminate if he fails to make the breakthrough with reciprocal options and agreed enhancements in pay, if he does make the breakthrough.
