I’m still annoyed at the way Schumacher left but I’m not particularly bothered that others went with him, that’s pretty common nowadays. Say that Hughes and Cavanagh decided they wanted to stay and Foster came in and didn’t want to work with them, then they’re unemployed, sticking with Schumacher offers more immediate job security.
Yes, and when managers get sacked, the backroom are usually also booted out the door.

Foster is definitely winning me over, I like how understated and how grown up he seems in comparison to both Lowe and Schumacher, I like how serious he is, and I like that we’re now looking like a solid team rather than a vulnerable group of gung ho individuals.
Schuey did a wrong at the end, but there’s a lot of revisionism going on here. He never struck me as not grown up. Always seemed to take his job seriously. We all loved him at the time. His manner of leaving shouldn’t rewrite history. Look at how upset everyone was when he left.

Foster is different in personality - a bit frostier and colder. Maybe more calculating. But essentially they both fit with the brief. Young, play attacking football, intelligent with good values, keen to develop young players. When we are all over the hurt and over ourselves and also grow up a bit, we will remember over 100 points and winning the title and how much we loved the guy and wished he’d never leave

But for now, we have another fella to back who appears a v shrewd appointment

When did the whole "management team" thing start? It doesn't seem that long ago that managers came and went but back-room staff remained just that. Then manager-plus-assistant manager became a thing*, and now managers seem to have a whole retinue of courtiers, hunting in packs and all popping up together ("I'm only taking the job if I can bring Bongo, Mikey and Bones")

*True, of course, that SS himself bucked this trend by not following Lowe, and I'm old enough to remember Clough and Taylor, and of course we had Shilton and McGovern.
If you ever see Paul Sturrock in the ground talk to him about his time at Southampton and the topic of staff. I believe his time there showed him that you need to surround yourself with people you know and trust. On the other hand, David Moyes complete clear out at Old Trafford was a probably a mistake. Difficult one.

It’s also interesting that now, without our specialist defence coach, we look more solid defensively.

I think that's because we now have a head coach who fully understands how to be defensively efficient when out of possession. we're certainly much more controlled and far less gung ho than under Lowe and Schumacher for me.

Foster to me is a real thinker of the game and a head coach. Be interesting who he keeps bringing in to be able to deliver the style of football that he wants. I've certainly seen glimpses of the style of play I think he's trying get the players playing - and it looks very encouraging. (y)

And worth noting he's still unbeaten as an Argyle manager winning both our home games 3-1 and both away games 1-1 (Something Schumacher hasn't achieved at Stoke)
