Cornwall building a complete new stadium for £14.3 million shows what can be done with modern material we are refurbishing a grandstand for £5 million and you can bet your bottom dollar it will be a lot more than that when they start the refurbishment.
It would be far better and far more cost effective to remove the grandstand ang buid a new one including the 2 corners, the priority now is to get the refurbishment finished not what is best for the football club.

But the Cornwall stadium has a total capacity of 6,000 across three basic sides and a main stand. I would wager that the main stand is costing the lion's share of the budget, so is probably costing more than our refurb and will have a lower capacity. Our grandstand refurb actually looks like good value in comparison.

£5 Million gets plastic seats in the Grandstand, seats on the Mayflower Terrace. It does not get the extended roof over the Front of the Mayflower Terrace. It does not get the corners filled in. It does not get the connected roof.
Not sure on the capacity figures.

Nope, it’s more than that. £5 million gets a complete rebuild of the lower tier incl new seats, a completely new extension containing the conferencing and banqueting centre, a complete refit of the whole stand and replacement of player facilities to the GS/BP corner, a new club shop and ticket office, and a new roof that extends the stand to the Barn Park corner. Phase 2 sees that roof extended over the lower tier seating, but it’s still a new roof in Phase 1.

Dismissing it as new seats and a lick of paint (not saying you have, but some are doing so) is grossly misleading. You only have to look at the old and new floor plans side by side, to see it will effectively be a different place.

It’s actually good news for me that Phase 2 and the GTs bar are on top of the £5m required above. It means that £5m can be concentrated on the most important and urgent elements now, with the eventual result incl Phase 2 more like a 10m facility. Plus the multi-million redevelopment of the HHP area, and it will look light years better than it does now.

Anyone who doubts the value of refurbishment should visit Ashton Gate - the refurbished stands there are fantastic.

That was an interesting article in The Independent about the proposed Stadium for Cornwall. Even more fascinating to learn that "Cornwall is currently the only country in the United Kingdom without a professional stadium..." Excellent journalism.

Total cost was £49 million. They are in a different stratosphere than us now.

What they have done with the three sides is fantastic, which it should be for the amount spent on them; the remaining stand, on the other hand ...

The problem now is to get the stadium ready for the Mayflower 2020 instead of what is best for Plymouth Argyle FC.

At this time getting the stadium ready for Mayflower 2020 is the best thing for Argyle.

If you want to increase/improve what is currently being done you may want to think about stumping up the money to do it as at this time the club do not that amount of money available.

I’d say that’s been a good thing in focussing everyone’s minds... and wallets... in finding a much needed solution.

What would have been your alternative? Wait even longer for someone to fund a £20m super stand?

If we do get a moneybags takeover then they can still make massive improvements if they want. I’m struggling to see the downside of the current plan.
