And this sounds good...

'The 6ft 2inch defender chipped in with four goals and one assist and played every minute as Walsall went unbeaten in their first eight games.'

I don't know if Walsall had any particular set-piece specialists or great crossers, but I like the sound of that + George Cooper/Conor Grant deliveries. Especially as we barely threatened at all from corners or set-pieces last season.

Inspiite of finishing only 19th last season- Walsall conceded only 53 goals in 46 games .... so I do see certain parallels with that other fellow- whatā€™s his name? Heā€™s now got lost in London somewhere, but we signed him from Crawley who finished in a similar position, also with a very tight defensive record.

Birmingham have signed Scarr twice, once as a youngster and then some years later From non- league Stourbridge- which suggests to me this fella has certainly got something about him.

Scarr , who has been compared to a young Scott Dann, by some, is described by Liam Keen of the express and star as, ā€œ a capable defender that has proved it for long periods of timeā€.

I like the low profile nature of this signing ā€œ Dan who?ā€ - generally thatā€™s a good sign in my experience for Argyle signings - tends to auger well. I also like that Walsall fans are critical of him- brings me back to that guy we signed from Crawley.

Good in the air and dangerous from set pieces , Scarr is vocal and in interviews says ā€œ Iā€™m a bit gobby ā€  ......... all good signs and fits the profile of what weā€™re looking for.

It's gone quiet on the Paul Mullin rumours, but nevertheless we were linked. Found this on Reddit thought it might be an enjoyable watch for some.

Bloomin' 'eck!! Have all those who said he is just a one season wonder seen that?!? Bloomin' 'eck!

Blimey, there's everything in that set - left foot, right foot, headers, long-range, close-range, twists and turns, runs onto through-balls, curlers, pile-drvers, tap-ins, shin-ins, toe-pokes, free-kicks, penalties, re-bounded penalties. All in one season. Lots of times.

NO WAY ARE WE GOING TO SIGN MULLINS...!

An important distinction: Bradley played for Crawley in League One and joined us when we were in League Two.

That is one factor that will hopefully change. The return of crowds.

Could it be some players will perform better without fans. There were no fans last season.

Not saying thatā€™s the reason but some players will have benefited from the pressure of no fans on their backs.

If he does come, I look forward to him being called Paul Mullins by half the fan base. He could go up top with Jake Jarvis, with Connor Grant pulling the strings.

Just checked this out woodsy, because my memory can be a bit fallible these days :wtf: , but on this occasion it looks like I was right ....,

I remember watching sonny Bradley play at home park in the 2015-2016!season, where he had quite a battle with Reuben Reid ... argyle won the game 2-1 .... October 2015.... so I remember seeing Bradley play in competition to Argyle, the season before we signed him... in league 2

Crawley finished that season in 20th place in league 2 ( argo finished 5th) - having conceded 78 goals ( so slightly more than Walsall, in fact)

Bradley signed for Argyle as a little known player, from league 2 rivals Crawley in the summer of 2016...

You are correct, Railway.

Crawley were in League One when they signed Bradley but were subsequently relegated. Bradley joined us after playing the full season in League Two for them, as you correctly stated.

Apologies.

As always, fan forums aren't always representative of majority views. Thought i'd have a look at Twitter comments from Walsall fans, which are a little more positive and mirror some of the same themes/

Looks like very disappointing news on Dan Scarr. I must admit I thought he was committed to the cause.

Good in the air (Defensively) but never shows it attacking wise ..... On the floor heā€™s dreadful.

On his day he can be an absolute machine but those days are very few and far between. Got some right clangers in him and I am pretty sure his feet are shaped like 50ps.

He has his moments, heā€™s good in the air and is a presence at the back however he also canā€™t play passing football and is error prone.

Got all the physical attributes to be a really good centre half. Never know playing with better players might bring it out of him.

Good in the air. Can't pass. Very physical. The polar opposite of what we've had recently. Will be interesting to see how he gets on!

I would love to hear RL's view on how a player with feet shaped like 50ps is going to fit into his ball-playing defenders philosophy.

Yes criticism of Scarr on Walsall Forums, makes mistakes but they do say he is good in the air and dangerous at set pieces.
In Lowey I trust!

Couple of other little gems from Walsall Forum:

James Wilson has been released by Ipswich. Just the type of experienced, commanding centre-back we could do with.

Unfortunately Joe Edwards wonā€™t be back. Player of the season at Plymouth and new contract offered.
We were silly to release Edwards and Morris.

In Lowey I trust! :scarf:
Based on last season I admire your optimism.

Argyle fan oldy!!!
Have we conceded yet?
No?
So today is a good day!! :scarf:
Wait til the new season starts!

The polar opposite? Error prone, can't pass and dreadful on the floor. Same as our defence last season.

In the article about Scarr, Lowe mentions another defender has agreed to join and should be signed by the end of the weekend.

Any ideas? Could be Woods?
