Welcome aboard the good ship Mayflower.

Of the 14 players who made at least 20 league appearances for Bury last season we now have five of them.

We just need to sign a player called Grant Moore now. #commentatorsnightmare

Before anyone brings out the word 'underwhelmed', I'm just going to point out I remember a lot of people being 'underwhelmed' about the signing of another supposed squad player, his name was David Fox.

I think again, it also says a lot for Lowe's man management and popularity that players who were only used as a rotational/squad player under him, are still willing to travel the length of the country to play for him again.

This is very true. The day after DA’s first pre-season friendly at Bovey Tracey, posters we’re asking why we had signed this elderly gent Fox, who was clearly well past it and treating us as a semi-retirement home. Some retirement.

New Signing: Byron Moore Analysed

Whereas football is trending away from goal-scoring strikers and looking to attacking midfielders to provide the finishing touches, Lowe's style needs the front men to be lethal. This is potentially a problem for Moore, as he is not that kind of player. Though he can add goals, he is not the sort to score twenty goals a season.

Yet, as well as scoring, it's important for the Lowe's strikers to help stretch teams and overload the flanks. Moore can move wide to receive possession, work with the wing-back and central-midfielder to interchange the ball around the opposition defence and create the space either inside the box or on the edge of the area. Mobility, awareness and skill with the ball is vital for this Lowe side, and Moore offers an additional option in this regard.

Wow!! Thanks for the videos, Nick. Looks like this guy’s gotta bitta pace.
Have a look, Metal Green Mickey.

I think this signing has just pushed Taylor into the 3rd striker spot and fletcher/Dyson all but out the door. Further striker deal still looming it seems providing we can shift some players out

I like his style of play. Either he links up with a wing back and assists/scores or attacks the box while the play is happening on the opposite wing.
btw, a couple of excellent through-balls in those vids, no?

Hard to disagree. Dyson definitely to be shipped out. Fletcher needs some game time at a lower level.

Not sure I agree. By all accounts Moore seems to be an impact player, rather than a starter and his style of play is hugely different to Taylor who is a target man and in my opinion would be well suited to playing in a two with a quick striker around him.

I’d expect Taylor to partner Telford opening day, potentially Lolos if one of those is not fully fit.

I agree with you re Taylor, although the problem will be keeping him fit.

Following the latest recruitments, I can see Joel Grant being a more of a survivor than Ryan Taylor, because of his ball skills.. The short videos appear to show RL's tactics being the forward movement of the midfielders and strikers at speed with the forward balls played to feet. This tactic is so different from the aerial balls we saw last season to RT with him holding up, to play in a more sedate paced midfielder. I appreciate the videos are short and may only demonstrate the best of Bury's movement and goals, but I feel there was definitely a more urgent game plan, than we have seen under DA.

I’m feeling really good about this! Having pace and dribbling ability up front a team this level can make a real difference to open up space for others. It draws in players and creates an overload elsewhere so really don’t care if he scores less himself when this leads to chances for the team

When your goal scoring threat is through 1 person that makes the goals themselves they can be marked out of the game. When the process of marking makes chances for others it is so much harder to counter

Whatever you think about Ryan Taylor, he gets the ball down to danger players, wins free kicks in dangerous areas and gets Argyle up the pitch. Byron Moore, Joel Grant, Klaidi Lolos and Dominic Telford will not half as successfully, but are no doubt handy when the ball is under control in the final third.

Don't write Taylor off, he still has a lot to offer this team.

Dyson and Fletcher on the other hand need to be looking at what is in store for them this season as I doubt it will be first team football at Argyle.

I think that’s enough staff and players from Bury now. Apart from the dangers of a dressing room clique, Lowe should be striving to make Argyle into a better team than Bury, not just re-creating them.

With regards to Taylor, I think he is a very good quality player and I hope that Lowe recognises that. If he stays fit, he will be a real weapon in League Two. I don’t see him scoring many goals but I think he can set up plenty.
