No huge surprises, though I probably expected Conor to stay and Brendan to go (though I imagine he may go next year). Wouldn't disagree with any of them, though I agree we need more pace at the back.
Mayor had an offer on the table Grant didn’t but as you say it was pretty much known that Danny would head back up northConor and Danny will be on their way back north and "released" is a mutual parting of the ways - they wouldn't accept the contracts we would have offered.
I'm not sure where I saw/read it but someone said that there is ALWAYS a player out there to replace the ones you lose. I'm confident that our recruitment team will find the right players for us. It's what we did last season and we'll do it again. One difficulty with Conor Grant is where do you play him in the current system? If you play him and Edwards as WBs, you have 2 WBs lacking in pace and the ability to take defenders on, and we become too predictable. That's where Mumba has made such a huge difference. Conor can play in lots of positions, but it's difficult to see him being first choice in any of them. You then look at him as a versatile squad reserve, and his fitness record means he is too often unavailable.
Good guy, loyal servant, sublime left foot, but this is probably the right decision. Everyone will wish him well.
Of those offered contracts, we desperately need at least two of Hardie, Ennis and Scarr to stay. The problem we face increasingly from now on is that if larger Championship clubs fancy our players then they can offer significantly more than we can.
On the few occasions he stays fit he is.Galloway is a huge plus.
I'm sure they'll get him 100 percent ready. He's been very unlucky with niggles. On the few occasions he stays fit he is.
They haven't managed it yet. That didn't look like a "a niggle" to me. The 2nd contract we gave him was an act of kindness - I'm amazed it had a year's extension within it.I'm sure they'll get him 100 percent ready. He's been very unlucky with niggles.
6 loans? If we're counting whitaker, he was replaced in January. With six loan players plus Mayor going and Cooper still out injured for the forseeable, we'll be short of at least eight key title winners, possibly more.
Not ideal having to manage a major squad re-build while also stepping up a league, but the loan system has helped us outperform clubs with far bigger budgets so we have to live with both sides of it.
I reckon Houghton and Wilson will re-sign and Scarr has spoken positively about staying. Less confident of Hardie and particularly Ennis.
I expect Zak Baker to be the third choice goalie, being the sub until Cooper is back and then sent out on loan.Danny has been brilliant for us, wish him nothing but the best. Also gutted for and a little bit surprised about Conor but it’s a tough one with his recent injury record.
I imagine Parkes being released means we’ll be signing another keeper.
