Because the issue that derailed our season last year was the size of the squad and the lack of quality in the squad when there are injuries.
Has that changed this year?
Difficult to say.
Where we needed to really strengthen, which was in the final third, it doesn't look like we've addressed that area at all on first impressions.

Jephcott and Ennis are struggling and Whittaker is not a striker. We are heavily reliant on Hardie currently. That may change if the first 2 find some form, but Jephcott in particular seems a shadow of the player who has scored 30 in the past 2 seasons.
We need more firepower. There's certainly no guarantee Hardie will score another 15-20 this season - he scored 6 in his first for us in League 1.
It's a worry, and 4 in 10 demonstrates a right to be concerned.
Do we have the money to go and get Cole Stockton? Or someone similar.

Over thinking a shooting opportunity, panicking when in the moment or maybe the players should go to a well known optician

They have the opportunities but as we all know if you don't put them in the onion bag you will either lose or draw

The Posh on Saturday will be a different animal with their well known armoury at their disposal

If they score first it will be a rather long afternoon- as i have said in previous posts we can't just rely on Finn who had 3 chances after he came on last night

I totally get that Schuey is trying out different tactics & formations but how long do you give it before it is back to the drawing board

Schuey has brought in players that will enhance what we have but at the moment we are a chugging, sputtering disjointed team

Maybe it is new season rustiness , maybe the players are being totally overloaded with this new way of playing - i feel after 10 to 15 games we will have a fair idea now this season will pan out

Our players are lacking composure in the final third at the moment. The last two home games have provided many shooting opportunities that have sailed over the bar. Ennis needs a goal and, but for a top save last night, would have been off the mark for the season.

Still missing a bit of muscle in the box. Someone who can buy a second or 2.

Jephcott isn’t the answer to many striker questions.
Ennis is technically very good but no end product
Hardie is the best finisher but is at his best in behind and making runs off the defenders

Im not sure about Whittaker. Don’t know enough about him.

If you listen to Schumacher interview Jephcott did go upfront. He swapped with Ennis who went in the no10 role. Schumacher said he was pleased with the performance from this moment they swaped around 35th min as the ball was the link up play was better.

So why sub Jephcott before Hardie came on when this is our most effective front 2 partnership??

The average of the other 9 teams is 76 goals. We scored 68.

68/46 = 1.47 goals per game
76/46 = 1.65 goals per game

So the difference across a 46 game stretch, which is a pretty large sample size, is 0.18 goals per game more. If you want to argue that that is significant, then I'd love to see the rational behind such thinking. If they all scored 7 goals in one game, and we only scored 1 in one game, then maybe - but 7-10 short across a 46 game stretch is a pretty poor justification to say that we struggled to score goals.

MK Dons scored 78 last season. We got 68. Now, if we beat them 5-0 on the last day of the season, we'd have both ended up on 73 a piece. That's literally a 1 game swing. It's not like despite that there is a 20 goal gap. Suddenly, in 1 game, we'd be level. So it's difficult to really justify the idea that we struggled to score goals.
We were flat-track bullies last season - we had no problem scoring plenty against the lesser lights of the division.

Our problem came when we had to face the strong teams. We scored 0 against Rotherham, 0 against Wycombe and 1 against both MK Dons and Sunderland. We did manage 1 in both games against Wigan but it was still only enough for a single point. The home game against Sheff Weds was an outlier when they were still getting their act together, and the away game was stupidly open with us scoring twice but conceding four.

I think the new formation is designed to restrict the goals against in those games and try and nick a 1-0. Trouble is, we're deploying it against everyone (even Yeovil), despite Schuey saying they'd only use it when we needed to be more secure behind the ball against the better teams.

Unless he sees Barnsley, Fleetwood and Peterborough in the Carabao as serious threats then something has changed since he said that.

We used to be the team playing on the counter and get ourselves in behind.

Now we’re team being allowed to play high and being countered.

Not sure which I prefer

Early alarm bells are already ringing, it's early days, i'll judge it after 10 games, but i stand by my opinion that we don't have enough for promotion.

For me promotion would be a miracle if you compare our budget against other top 12 teams. Only 3 teams get promoted so it would be an unbelievable effort to just be able to finish 6th let alone get promoted.

Good point, but Mr Hallett wants us to be 'a sustainable championship club'. So to do this he's evidently going to have to put more money in which he said he won't do?

Maybe Mikel's early injury has put a spanner in the works- yes we knew what we were getting but is he the cog that is missing?

I just think it’s a year too early to be promoted when we’re putting our money into infrastructure to increase long term revenues - not the playing budget. I think mid table around 10-14th is where we’ll finish this season.

Next season I would expect our budget to increase as I’d think SH will divert more money to that knowing that 20% of that increase won’t be coming out of his pocket.
