Whats even stranger is that a keeper that conceded the fifth fewest goals in League One and returned the fourth best save success rate is valued by some on here at £10m or £5m.

Really makes me wonder what those people that think the keeper that conceded the least number of goals and returned the best save success is worth

Not even sure why I'm replying to you as I suspect you're on a wind-up, but clubs are going to be buying potential and ability to perform at a higher level with Michael Cooper.

There's no reason at all why the keeper that conceded fewest goals and has the best save success rate in L1 should be worth more than MC or even a fraction of what he's worth. Particularly if they don't have the ingredients that top level clubs are looking for, and the potential/likelihood to develop into an elite goalkeeper.

Whatever he goes for it might be soon if Pearce’s commentary at the Chelsea game is anything to go by
For those of us not in the know, what did he say please?

If he leaves and Argyle get more than 750,000 for his transfer, will you come on here and say you got it wrong?

...and yet Twine is valued only slightly higher

Proven goalscorers are worth far, far more than goalkeepers. They have much, much more of an influence on the game as do all outfield players compared to goalkeepers.

I agree that what Twine went for is 'a useful indication' of what Cooper is worth but not in the way that you're thinking. I used to think that we would be lucky to get £1m for Cooper but after seeing what Twine has gone for, I now find myself reducing that to £750k.

Most definitely.

I really do think people misunderstand me. I am simply sharing my thoughts/view/opinion call it what you will. I am an Argyle fan and would be absolutely over the moon if he goes for £10m or £5m but based on what I've seen and in comparison to the many other young capable goalkeepers out there, I just cannot see it happening.

People call me a troll, a joke, silly or offer up a demeaning little emoji etc but cannot offer up anything worthwhile to rebut what I'm saying. All they can do is point to a good game he had when he was brought on as a sub against Blackburn and his performance against Chelsea, not forgetting of course the stat driven league one keeper of the season accolade where he returned stats of being fifth and fourth placed in key areas.

I would have thought the PFA one would be more telling but there you go. I guess people don't want to dwell on that one because Cooper isn't in it.

Let me ask you the same Phil. When Cooper is still here at the end of the transfer window or goes for an amount well below the £10m/£5m, will you come on here and say you got it wrong?

Comparisons with outfield players are a bit limited... They get injured/rested/rotated and subbed on and off in a way that goalkeepers don't so a striker aged 22 is more likely to have had far more opportunity to accumulate games and experience.

It'd be interesting to know how many keepers around that age or younger are already established first team regulars.

Meslier of Leeds is the only one in the PL. I don't follow Championship football enough to know whether there's anyone at that level. In our league, I can recall Bazunu and James Trafford who were both contracted to the Premier League champions, which is obviously a sign that anyone good enough to be playing regularly in the third tier aged 19/20 has very high potential and thus transfer value.

Obviously, that's a couple of years younger than Cooper, but he's clearly in pretty elite company as one of very few players in his age bracket who is already an established first team keeper

As another interesting comparison I looked up where the keepers for the top 3 Premier League clubs were playing aged 22:

- Ederson: back-up keeper for Benfica. He had previously played as first choice for a lower ranked Portuguese team
- Alisson: back-up keeper for Internacional in Brazil, having not yet played much first team football
- Edouard Mendy: claiming unemployment benefit in France having spent a year out of football following release from a non league club

Not saying Cooper will or won't get to their level, but the examples again reiterate the amount of potential improvement a 22 year old keeper has in them.

What keepers have that strikers or other positions don't have is longevity, a keeper could go on until he is 40 where as the other positions last until what 32-35?
I hope he stays but on the flipside I hope he goes for a huge fee and proves me and others wrong and plays for England

Good that you would come on and say you had it wrong.
Yes, I would too if it were for less than £10m, because that’s what my minimum valuation would be at present.

That is very, very interesting, thanks (y). Wasn't aware of the Mendy situation at all.

Tbh Phil, neither of us should have to come on here and admit we were wrong as it’s a bleddy football forum for gawds sake. It’s a place for people to offer up their different views and thoughts. I guess it’s a sign of the times though.

People want to believe what they want to believe and anyone with an alternate view is either not a real fan or a troll and the keyboard warriors seem to think they have carte blanche to pour scorn on those people. A kind of mob mentality seems to take over if someone should ever dare to suggest different to what the masses want to believe 🤷‍♂️

Mention of Sunderland and Michael Cooper in the same sentence on twitter from a guy called Josh, mind you he also mentions Burnley are keeping an eye on him - whatever that means lol
