Having additional capacity would be a nice to have rather than a necessity, for all those crying for additional capacity that would be empty on most occasions, who do you suggest we could sell to produce the millions required?

That looks fairly smart. I do seem to remember hearing the Green Taverners can take a 3rd level? Hospitality seems to be sold out most weeks from what I gather so could be a good option in the tunnel corner? Might not be to everyones taste, but from a business point of view it might make sense.
I think that makes excellent sense to fill in one of the corners with a corporate area that will get bigger profits to the club and be able to be paid off quicker.

You're right, but you can use a facility like that for whatever you want.
Agree, it could be whatever you want.

The question is, would the corner areas at HP be better utilised by adding additional Corporate facilities or to increase the general capacity up to 20,000?

We are certainly getting better crowds now comparatively to just before we got promoted to the championship in 2006. Even then we had around 5 matches that had over 16,000 crowds and I’d argue we are better supported now as a club 15 years on and I’d guess that by not increasing the capacity we will in effect be throwing away money. I think if the aim is to be a sustainable championship level club we need a capacity somewhere around 22-24k.

I am not proposing expansion now but if we get promoted and intend to stay in the championship I believe it will be required- and I think the Bristol City model shows the way

Question. Is there a potential financial advantage in deliberately leaving the ground under capacity? When demand exceeds supply prices rise disproportionately. We may generate just as much revenue without any additional investment. Might make sense if, after reaching the Championship only, say, 5 or 6 games against the very top sides were sure to need extra capacity.

Currently in a financial sense, a no-brainer to add additional corporate facilities over more seating in that corner. As that's an in demand area which is currently at capacity (I think?) AND will pay back the investment quicker.

Just realised @JannerinCardiff has said exactly the same :ROFLMAO:

I wanted to say something really good appears to be happening with the number of mascots. It used to about 2-5 for any one game. On Saturday and at least one other match this year I have counted ten. One more and we can have a team of mascots.

According to the link below our average attendance this season of 12,027 is at 70.1% of our stadium capacity of 17,150 (if that's the true figure), the fifth highest percentage in League One.
Traditionally attendances increase around February time so if the team continues to do well the 'sold out' signs will appear more often and we'll be up to 90+% capacity.

Also I've noticed the club are really pushing and promoting pro-rata season tickets this season, it's something I've never noticed before, it's usually season tickets sold in the summer followed by a half-season ticket at Christmas with Flexi tickets in-between.

I would love to see the grandstand upper tier expanded down to the Barn Park end, it just looks wrong as is and the capacity of it is err.....not very grand, the boss side of the ground, 5000 seats ?
I would also like to see a general capacity increase, because its nice for people to have a choice of where to sit and maybe a bit of elbow room, sit in the dry, or the opportunity to get adjacent tickets for popular games.
Problem now is the price of concrete is up 30 % this year and steel is unobtanium, and inflation in construction will continue to rocket for the rest of this decade. So I'm not sure we can do it. Training facilities are more important.

I fully endorse an expansion (at the appropriate time) but to play Devil’s Advocate - not many teams in this league will bring down 1,500+ fans. For the games against the likes of Morecambe and Accrington, the club could make 15,000+ seats available to home fans if it wanted to. I still don’t think we’d sell that out yet.

Yes the pro rata ticket caught my eye too. A great initative I thought. With the current capacity restricted to 16,300 with lost grandstand seats we could say we are currently at 75% so even better.
I enquired this morning about corporate tickets for Wimbledon on Jan 1st and everything is booked up until February 22nd which is fantastic. I think the Captain's lounge is still being used by the NHS so don't know if that makes a big difference but nevertheless it's all very encouraging.
With Ryan Lowe or was it Neil Dewsnip? raving about the prospects of 3 of our youngsters aged 15, 16 and 17 to add to Cooper and Jephcottt we might yet be able to fund increasing capacity if just one of them brings in a huge transfer fee.

I’d add Randell to that list of hot prospects too imo

so is it better facilities that attract better crowds or is it a better team or is it playing in a higher division?

probably all three but history at Argyle shows the highest crowds are invariably in a promotion season when the team is winning with crowds reducing the following season as the team settle/struggle and only big opponents attract big crowds.

So maybe the answer is a winning team is the biggest influence on crowds at Argyle, unless the game is stellar like the Liverpool game.
