Pffft. Was never going to happen and probably just as well it didn’t.

To be fair, it does look like it was going to happen and that the player people saw wearing Argyle gear the other day WAS Bobby Duncan… if that report is correct, that he was training with Argyle and we wanted a short term loan deal.

Maybe Lowe will change his mind at the last minute and take him for the season if no other deals materialise

Good news, we dodged a bullet there.
It just shows how complicated the situation is at Derby.
I think it’s time to revisit the whole strategy of targeting England youth international players- because, fact is we’re not getting the “star” players- the ones we are getting are the ones the bigger clubs don’t want.

And how many of these players have actually turned out to be any good ?

Time to return to a strategy which has brought us a lot of success in the past ( paul mariner, Craig no one, Ashley Barnes, paul Barron, yannick bolasie)- let’s target promising and/ or young non- league players.

Basically shows Derby do not want to pay his wages for a year and don’t rate him to get anywhere near their team.

Maybe Lowe was trying to do Stevie G a favour by giving his relative game time but there seems very little good for Plymouth Argyle in any such deal.

Wasn’t Ennis a youth international- he’s turned out pretty good imo

True. But my general point is that we seem to be targeting former youth international players- who frankly have hardly been missed by their clubs or supporters, when they left to join Argyle.

Nial Ennis is a player who was rated by supporters and the his club , and also cost a substantial fee …. So I would put him in a different category.

Ian Stonebridge was the one notable success ( under Sturrock) that Argyle have had using this system.

I would love to see us going back to targeting non- league talent- and remember seeing Dwight Marshall making his first appearance for Argyle in a friendly at St Blazey . Are there more Dwight Marshall’s out there? sure there are.

I can only imagine Argyle abandoned this system to avoid paying fees to non- league clubs. But then if the new system you put in place is to take unwanted players from premier team’s u23 side- then should you really be surprised if you don’t come up with many “hits”?
