Then as I've always said, employ a manufacturer for whom a reorder from Argyle *IS* in their interests, a smaller more flexible company for whom the Argyle deal is a big deal, not a piffling inconvenience for which they impose three times the branding of their company on the garment than the actual customers.
i know the south west rep for FBT. vernon would love to supply argyle with their kit and has been rebuffed more than once.moreover they are a company in torpoint.

Really not a fan of them, I'm afraid. And their full name is Football Thai Factory Sporting Goods, so hardly a local company even if they have a presence in the south west.

Maybe I'm just shallow but I prefer seeing Argyle play in kits made by a traditional well-known football name like Umbro, Adidas and yes... Puma. Perhaps Errea, Hummel or Kappa.

A few clubs have FBT now.

Crewe, Donnie and Newport to name just three.

They're obviously trying hard.

Certainly the plus point of them is they can manufacture EXACTLY what you wanted.

Say an all green (whichever shade) strip with a sublimated Smeatons Tower would be easily arranged.

As for you knowing Vernon Steve, EVERYONE knows Vernon aka The Janner Alan Whicker.

The proof of the pudding will be in the actual number of shirts sold.....imho very few except for the couple who would buy it if it was poo coloured.....you know who they are......

The club have a real poser here in what sort of numbers they order. They underestimated the popularity of last season's away shirt and missed out on many sales. It must be a gamble and it wont be easy to predict the sort of numbers they might be able to sell without having excess stock come the end of the season. I wonder what sort of mark-up they get from Puma.
from my understanding of this silly association with puma it's not a case of how many argyle order but how many puma can be arsed to give argyle, the sooner they get rid of puma the sooner they can get a decent kit.
I suspect now it is another three seasons, Argyle for some inexplicable reason have re-signed with Puma and the last deal was three years. It is suspicious (although perhaps telling in that they recognise fan discontent) that Argyle never announced they'd re-signed when they did so back in December.

Three more years of this 'slave' contract arrangement then, where the customers interests come second to the retailers. pi$$ poor to knowingly and willingly enter into such deal again when your customers continually express dissatisfaction with the product* and the long waiting times for reorders.

Mind you, that's probably not going to be a problem next season as I can't see sales of this one being that high.

*last season's change kit being the exception, a seemingly tailored design to our specification. It can be done therefore but 50% of one seasons kit over what, a ten year association?, that is a poor record.

Same point I was making, but put in a far more eloquent way. It is obvious that Argyle are far more worried about obligating their contract with Puma, than they are giving fans a shirt which would be popular among the majority of the fanbase. They need to remember that it is the customer who is going to be buying the product, if they continue with shirts like this then it is the club who are going to lose out in decreased sales.

The kit deal isn't primarily about the selling of replica shirts. It's about the club getting the best deal for all the kit that it uses itself. Hundreds of shirts, shorts, socks, training wear, travel wear, trackies and anthem jackets etc etc that the players and staff use for the business of playing football. Puma may be offering the club a far better deal in this respect than they can find elsewhere.
Again as I've pointed out before it can't be beyond the wit and experience of the chairman of a relatively successful clothing company to look through the Saltrock little black book of clothing manufacturers and find a couple of smaller and more local companies to provide the training and leisureware needs for the club shop.

The team shirt does NOT have to be intrinsically linked to all the other clothing sold by the club. I worry that it is simply a case of the 'too difficult' light coming on. A global megabrand does everything for you in one hit...but we pay for it, both literally in terms of mark up and prohibitive impositions on ordering, delivery and choice.

The time to try something else is long overdue, all it requires is a little bit of work and forward planning.

Cost, X-ey, will be the deciding factor, and profit margins more so.

The pound is the deciding factor in all this.
And again as I've said before I refuse to believe that the markup for a global megabrand is smaller than for a company more desperate for our custom.

Besides, even if it was, which it isn't, a tailor made desirable shirt will sell umpty thrumpty times better and thus yield greater profit. We got a glimpse of that with last season's change kit, give us what we want and it will fly off the shelves.

furthermore X-ISLE, FBT would bring them in at cheaper than any of the "big boys" ,my good friend vernon has told me this umpteen times and FBT would almost certainly become a major sponsor of argyle and this company are massively wealthy.couple this with vernon being an argyle fan who regularly "has the ear" of the proprietor!what an opportunity missed.

Not massively keen on the new kit, but I assume the club has a limited range of options within its arrangement with Puma.

One thing I never like to see on an Argyle kit is so much white. As an exiled fan of many years when I tell people I'm an Argyle fan it is usually met with mild indifference and followed by the question "Are they in league . . . 2?" . However what is often mentioned, even by fans of large clubs, is an awareness of two things: our unique name and that our kit is GREEN. The colour green is such a positive thing for the club in terms of its identity and appeal that I cant understand why we would want to limit its use on our kits.

Totally agree with this. There is far too much white on this kit. Perhaps it's my age but I always thought we were green and black. Black shorts would have been ideal.
