The condition of entry is that you do not bring prohibited items into the ground. Generally a pragmatic view is taken and random searches (or just wanding) can be performed in the hope it would deter others if they were carrying something. It wouldn’t be possible to search everyone, hence why this is the preferred approach.
The steward at the bottom of the Lyndhurst was wanding
every adult and also searching bags. Took over 20 minutes to get into the ground the slowest this season.
I'm contract the Covid pass check involved a fleeting glance

So all I've got do is make my £1.80 ish instant coffee last up to 2 hours. Worth getting there early after all. 😉

I got somewhat distracted pre-match (by the prospect of a pint) and I had to queue for a long time to pick up my match ticket from the box office - perhaps 30 minutes, because of the numbers of people collecting Chelsea tickets, but it didn't take long to clear the Covid check. I joined the queue outside the Devonport End at about 2.50pm but I was in my seat in time for kick-off.

The problem I have with getting there early is that I find it rather boring waiting around for a couple of hours, as ,mentioned on a previous thread its getting to a stage where im beginning to ask is it worth bothering with which is a shame because i love supporting my club.

I cannot understand what has made it necessary for the security checks getting into the ground this season. When I was a teenager these would have been worthwhile. (I remember a notorious Argyle fan showing off a cut throat razor in the Devonport End) but now even we old timers are being electrically frisked when a flask of tea is the most dangerous thing being carried.
Have I missed something that has caused this upscaling of security or do we just have a new over zealous chief steward?
Perhaps they could put on display all the offensive articles seized through the season and we would appreciate how worthwhile the checks are.

I thought I read something a while ago that said that all large sporting venues had to increase their security as a result of directives coming down from the Government after the Manchester Arena bombing inquiry.

Maybe I was lucky, but I got caught up in really heavy traffic coming out of Plymstock so thought I’d miss the start of the match. However, I parked in Peveral at 2.40 and was in my seat with a few minutes to spare. There was a quick search at the top of the steps along the Lyndhurst, then a queue of 3 or 4 people to get in.

If 6,000 people can’t enter a football ground through 34 turnstiles in half an hour then there is a major problem with the infrastructure at Home Park.

I believe the issue is with the lack of turnstiles on the Lyndhurst side. Devonport is fine. Not sure if more can be added

You can read the protect duty consultation document here:

Whilst not formally in legislation there will shortly be a requirement on all large venues to meet certain criteria resulting from the Manchester Bombing enquiry. We have recently implemented changes to our searching as a result of the feedback we have received from supporters. We will continue to evolve this to ensure entry is quick and as accommodating as possible.

Such a pain to have your entrance delayed by a few minutes to help improve everyone's safety. Life is hard isn't it?

If the searches are due to a perceived terrorist threat then why aren’t vehicles banned from the service roads around Home Park when there are thousands of people milling around.
Isn’t one of the new dangers cars being driven into crowds of pedestrians, Drake Circus has measures in place to prevent this.

Hostile vehicle mitigation is part of the protect duty recommendations. There have been a number of consultation meetings to determine best approach as a number of stakeholders need to be engaged:

Life Centre
Central Park
PAFC
Park and Ride

A recommendation by a specialist will be issued for review by all groups. The vehicle mitigation barriers/system at Drake Circus is a combination on bollards/Rhino barriers etc. These require consultation and in some cases planning permission. Those discussions are being had, and as part of our car park development we will be implementing some around the shop & ticket office. In addition, the statue is being co-ordinated alongside these plans.
