This season the stewarding has been pee poor. I don't know what has changed but something has. I have a season ticket in the Mayflower and I have never seen so many people smoking and drinking in their seats. I had two lads drinking pints in front of me. I told them they had better be careful and they said they walked past the stewards with drinks and nothing said. Not the most heinous of crimes I know but still unlawful. It's not easy being a steward when things start going wrong but you do need them to be strong and not afraid of confrontation. I don't blame them when people jump onto the pitch because that is difficult to stop but they should be able to stop fans simply walking across the divide to do battle.

It's a new security company for this season.

Wigan fans were in the Fortesque in Mutley before the game snorting coke like it was going out of fashion... not surprising there were issues with them.

People. I'll not call them fans. People from our stand went into their stand and started throwing punches.

That's not what we want is it.

Stewards were VERY slow to react and at most grounds with a netted exclusion zone you would expect to see stewards sat at least in alternate rows, so in the event of problems there’s an immediate deterrent of sorts.

it took them ages to get up the stand from pitch side.

Ive seen some footage this evening and you're right, the stewards take a while to react.
Which leads to a priceless moment when many of the brave troops🎖️ realise they have a free route to the Wigan contingent but suddenly stop as if there is some mysterious forcefield. 😂💪

Clearly, any of them working the away end need to be more experienced and there’s usually a good number of door staff types amongst them. With Portsmouth due down in the not too distant future, the club can’t afford a repeat of that fiasco today.

This is exactly how I saw it unfold. It was actually hilarious to see the morons realise they had a free run to have a go but mysteriously became paralysed until the stewards arrived to save them. It was utterly embarrassing bordering on pure comedy. They should be rounded up and forced to watch the cctv back in front of their families so they can cringe in shame 🤣🤣

Maybe some of those who saw fit to participate in the trouble would be good enough to come on here and explain to those of us with more than 2 brain cells their rationale for doing so.....
Reading some of the comments here, I think some have already made comments

The stewards were also trying to stop the surge around the Wigan players who celebrated their winner.
