So literally one game at a time tonight

After the midweek resurgence of Charlton at Shrewsbury, and them heading to wound licking Pompey on Saturday tonights game at Ewood between potential Champions Blackburn and Peterbuckle whose defeat by Rochdale means another defeat will make their play off hopes fade ....

Given they still have to play Portsmouth at fraction on the final Saturday something that keeps them interested but distant like a draw would not be a bad result...I think it is unlikely as Blackburn seem to have hit form ( and after this Saturdays round they head to The Valley so long way that continue

Pompey ( and Bradford !!) have a maximum of 72, Scunthorpe and Charlton maximum of 74 Peterbuckle can hit 73 so without any interdependency its 11 from the last 15 to guarantee a play off spot. So we can afford to lose or draw two of the last five and still make it :)

If Pompey win on Saturday I could see a chance where they win their last three...and given Charlton have to face Blackburn I am favouring a draw ( ideal as they both drop two points from their maximum tally) or a Charlton win.

The unknown ( as much as anything is more unknown than anything else ) is how will Scunthorpe continue after their good result at Charlton....they are unbeaten in four , but have three draws but their final fixtures are mainly at home and apart from against ourselves not against anyone substantial ( finish at home to Bradford ). In theory they should take 4-6 points from Walsall (H) and MKD (A).

It would be good if Rotherham could to tie up Play off qualification on Saturday and then rest a few players when they come down to us....

Talk about white knuckle rides.....

Scunny look to be over the line to me given their run in. Its either us or Charlton IMHO

I can absolutely guarantee Sam that you would not be saying that if Scunny and our positions were reversed. You would be pointing to our games in hand, the fact that Rotherham may be resting players when they face us, and our recent form to suggest we were favourites.

I still think we are favourites after Rotherham but that depends on Taylor back in the team, without that it is going to be very close run thing.

I think you're right Flash. I can see us clawing our way into the play-offs then absolutely mucked because we don't have anyone to play in Taylor's role.

I suppose in a way it will be a fitting end to our season. Nothing learned from June to May.

I always feel sorry for the 3rd team who is 10 pts clear of the rest but doesn't get in the autos.
They are flat and depressed and have all the pressure and more to lose in a way and then potentially face the form team high in confidence.
Reckon more lower place teams win play offs than teams that miss out by 1 place

So as injuries bite we enter the defining moments of the season starting with a load of cobblers.

Will Taylor be fit? Is Makasi posting fake images to throw off the Northampton plans? Is DA Machiavelli in a kilt? Will the players run out in Dali masks like Netflix Money Heist? All will be revealed at 3PM.

Elsewhere Pompous and the Charlton massive butt heads to see who can damage the other on our behalf....for once a fixture that helps no matter what. Personally I think Charlton have the potential to be dangerous play off opponents but with Blackburn (H) and Rochdale (A) after todayI would hope for a draw.

If Pompey win they could well win their last two at Bury and then home to Peterbuckle for whom the nightmare of conspiracy theories continue to derail their bid as a cabal of EFL referees continue their vendetta against the charming convicted fraudster Steve Evans. They look to be in their play off death throes and play at Shrewsbury on Tuesday followed by Fleetwood before heading to Fratton for the Pompey play off party ( or the shooting of the first crowd scenes od A Quiet Place 2)

In the grim north Scunthorpe take on relegation haunted Walsall and should prevail...Rotherham bestow the last rites on the Gas condemning them to a derby versus Exeter or Wycombe if all goes well for us ( and them) but a draw would be a fun result for us.

But for the moment we await the first ever bingo style team selection as Derek pulls random names out of a bag and places them on the team sheet....does Matthews come straight back in for Letheren..or does he make a shock start at centre forward after his twitter post of earlier in the season.....

All to play for............

And so after the nightmare of Saturday we return to a favourite stomping ground and scene of previous Tuesday night promotion joy of Spotland.

About the only good thing that came out of Saturday was the overwhelming sense of relief felt by most of Pasoti that Samjones and UptheLine had not eloped in order to try and create the ultimate black hole of internet trolls. We have missed you boys, and will be happy to do so again...

Injuries were sadly as expected so no Ryan or Moses, and after Paton was crocked it appears no Lazarus either, although a useful work out for Antoni which might help him back up to speed....

As the fixtures run out a Tuesday night in Rochdale will live long in the memory if the team pull out of the death spiral of a single defeat in a row.....a draw is not much good for either team.....and the first to score will probably be tempted to sit back, so a long and nervy night however you choose to "enjoy" it.

The only other fixtures of note ( at the top end ) are Shrewsbury stumbling over the line courtesy of their star player of whoever the ref is, according to Mr Evans, ahead of his rerelease of "This Charming Man", and finally putting the Posh out of their misery in time to capitulate against Pompey on the final day. Blackburn can also close in on promotion by defeating Doncaster...is it too much to hope that they will still need points at the Valley on Saturday.....well yes, probably it is but you would hope they would still be taking something from that game ....

So a win tomorrow and we are firmly back in the race.....and we have a few days of blissful silence from the nay sayers ( you can have an opinion boys...just try not to enjoy it so much)

There is a scientific survey just published that shows that football results on average make you more miserable , as the high from winning isn't as big as the low from losing....

We know professor...we know

Great stuff!
A bit like needing snookers but think a draw would mean three wins in the last 3 games guarantees the play offs whereas a defeat wouldn't.

So eight more sleeps till the play offs...or not...

With TLC morphing into GLC ( and if the GLC can't strike then who can) Argyle pinched a point from Spotland which by general consensus could and should have been three.

The upshot is that it is still in our hands and Joel Grant has scored as many goals in his last three games as Ryan Taylor scored in his last seven....which kind of misses the point, but thats what statistics a re for really....proving what you want them to prove.

Sky certainly think we are in with a shout, breaking the bank to secure the live rights to our trip to Scunthorpe, and there is a mathematical treatise on the Charlton Into the Valley site that analyses nine different ways they can miss the play offs or not....

So whilst Tuesday is key this weekend could bring about a swift revision to the odds....

Charlton host title chasing Blackburn ( is it really a title chase when you have previously won the Premier League?) and are missing Fosu and Mavididi, and possibly centre half Pearce as well as apparently injuries are catching up with them....an away win or draw more than possible here which would leave the Addicks heading to the aforementioned Spotland on either 68 or 69 points and just the one game left.

Rotherham head down to HP with old boy Purrington currently In the first team and potentially resting players for the play offs...as it appears albeit unintentionally are we as Ryan Taylor looks set to miss out again...a win would be spectacularly helpful for us.....so fingers crossed we can do so without losing any more players to injury.

Scunny head to doomed MKD who having sacked their manager are prime candidates for an end of season shock....well I am biased but stranger things have happened....Scunthorpe have dragged out two narrow 1-0 wins at the best possible time but their form is far from convincing.

Unless Steve Evans can convince the European Court of Arbitration that they has jurisdiction over the referees conspiracy that has denied Peterbuckle their rightful place in the play offs that leaves Pompey needing to win at Bury and Bradford needing to defeat a bizarrely rampant Southend to keep their hope alive. Bradford play Walsall on Tuesday night and then finish up at Scunthorpe on the final day so are still technically in sight of 70 points....

There remains the outside yet not impossible possibility of Argyle and Charlton finishing level on points goals scored and goal difference meaning, having both defeated the other 2-0 a neutral ground play off before we even get to the play offs...

Still it would give us more time to get Ryan fit...

So two cup finals...or maybe one cup final and a friendly

As Derek and the management team select a side from what looks more and more like a football version of And Then There Were None you cannot fault the commitment of the team. They are even injuring each other in a bid to cement a place in the play offs so ATS kind of owes us a performance.

Having finally admitted he cannot get Ryan Taylor out from down the back of the sofa where he dropped him, and losing Ness to a late challenge from his midfield colleague you can only imagine how much the cotton wool budget for this week has been in order to field a side.

That said a win is massive and even a draw still cranks up the pressure on the sides above who then have to get a result just in case we do like to be beside the Medway on Saturday evening.

Scunny will want the win and have finally decided they can beat some teams, although their home form is far from good and they have form in choking in the play offs last season....and they sold their goal banker Madden versus Argyle to Fleetwood.

Sky cameras mean the lower league pundits will have been scrabbling around the squad list ( a little bit like DA) before deciding they will just talk loads about Graham Carey ( again a little bit like DA).

Extra St Johns Ambulance volunteers will crowd the Argyle dugout pitch side before moving to the Argyle fans end as we enter added time, or as it is now know GC Pen time ( Ok it isn't as catchy as Fergie time but it will have to do). For me this is more nerve shredding than the Play Off final v the Wombles, and with four more games potentially after this one, we could be the first team in history to go up having only fielded the legal minimum seven players ( three of them goalkeepers) in the Final.

So from one to eleven/fourteen, come on you Greens. A scruffy O.G., a 35 yard screamer, a mis kick which goes in off Rubens backside....anything.....Whatever the outcome this season has been truly magnificent and I would really love to be writing the next One Game at a Time with a chance there could be three more.

PRIDE. PASSION. COMMITMENT.

WHAT A TEAM!!!!!
