Save by Pickford near the end of normal time though. Overshadowed by the goal.

Amazing really. All summer we've worried about their lack of experience. Trippier's got some bottle. Fantastic.

Nearly lost it cause of Henderson.Just knew he would miss as soon as he started keepy uppy on the way to take his penalty. What a prat.

Wrighty has just said the same about the keepy uppy. My big question is why didnt Vardy step up!!?

The keeper saved, there's a difference. The Colombian player missed when he hit the bar. Nice of you to draw attention and discuss the one out of five penalty takers who had theirs saved. English blame mentality?

Pasoti is the same when Carey has an effort saved, suddenly everyone is an expert and tells him where he should have put it. Any penalty can be saved.

That felt similar to the Argyle-Pompey play off semi.

The crushing inevitability that we’d come up short again, replaced by the sheer jubilation of an unexpected win.

(Argyle felt better though )

At last!

Pretty good penalties in general.

Bring on the Swede - a tough game ass they will be solid but certainly not as niggly as Colombia were.

location, location.
Vardy appeared to be holding his groin. Or he just needed the loo. Maybe that's why he didn't take a penalty. Henderson's penalty was better than Dier's but was saved. It happens.

Henderson was nervous - can anybody blame him? I said exactly the same about Vardy...... but then thought some more and if he genuinely didn't want to then maybe it takes a certain 'bottle' for a striker to admit it? Better that than step up with fake bravado just because he thinks he should and then miss. The pundits thought they'd seen him nod to Southgate - maybe he was number six? Whatever ..... Trippier was terrific, Ali was never fit. We deserved it.

True but Dier wasn't trying to be a smartass. Knibbsworth ,even Ian Wright felt the same as I did.As soon as Henderson started messing around you just knew he would miss his penalty.Just not professional IMO.

At last. bye bye pen curse. Well done the young keeper on the save and big eric with his slightly nervous kick through the
keepers glove.
Oh almost forgot the crossbar. Thank you big time woody.
What a struggle though. Need to play much better than this, as we cannot keep relying on set pieces and pen shoot outs.
Doesnt seem to be enough penetration to our forward play. Ali and lingard maybe too similar when we go forward?
Or maybe the extra defensive duties hampering them making those attacking forward runs they are known for?
Still not convinced with young at WB and walker at CB either.
Maguire had a brilliant game though. Strong in the air and bobby moore like on the ball.
I still prefer the 3421 to the 352 but there you go were through and thats all that matters. And the nation, never
mind the team, probably needed to win by a pen shootout at some point just to get that bleddy monkey off its back
at long last. A nice comfortable win against sueden now please.

We are a one half team during this tournament but it's enough to get through games so credit to the players. We need at least a 70 minute performance in the next game against Sweden which is effectively similar to a Premier League style of game.

I thought the same about Vardy, doesn't he take penalties for Leicester? Maybe he was the first player for the sudden death penalties?

ITV are just rubbish.

England were woeful.

Emphasis on winning matches through set pieces and practising the dark arts to win free kicks. Oh dear - show some class England!

Not a single shot on target from open play throughout 120 minutes against a poor Columbia.

How can anyone be happy with that?

At least he had the bottle to take one unlike Vardy. Thought he was hopeless when he came on. This squad has very little after the first Xi.

Also Henderson penalty was better than Dyer's. Ospina should have saved it.

England weren't great but better than Columbia. Different game if their best player who makes them tick had been available.

2 average sides between England and a final now
