I was thinking this the other day. Moreover, i was concerned that I can't think of many instances where we've "flirted with" relegation, without actually being relegated. I can remember one season in the Championship (did Norwich go down on the last day instead?) and the two times where we nearly dropped out of the football league, but every other time, we've dropped.

I remember a match against Orient on last day of season at HP. Argyle could have been relegated to Div 4 but won 3-1...... I think.

We did it twice in two seasons under Fletcher and Sheridan to be fair. We stayed up on the 3rd to last day under Fletcher and on the last day under Sheridan.

We lost 4-1 thanks to David Speedie and were relegated. Unless you're talking about another time that predates my memory.

I remember 11/12 going to Morecambe with 3 games to go and being safe. I think we drew 2-2 and Darren Purse scored a header and feeling so incredibly relaxed after the last 3 years.

I was at that game, Luke Young scored our first and you’re right Darren Purse scored a header for our equaliser. Steve Fletcher also hit the bar from about 40 yards. Ollie Chenoweth played in goal, I think that was the only appearance he made for us.

My first season attending -1963? I think - we drew 0-0 with Rotherham to stay up in the old D2 on goal difference average. Not sure when GD came in.

Correct but I’m sure it was 3-1 not 4-1

Dalglish took over, didn't he? It was the start of the Jack Walker tenure, Bobby Mimms in goal. We had to win to stay up, they had to win to go up. We went 1 nil up, Dave Smith if I recall. Then a David Speedie hat trick sealed our fate. One of the few times we had a delayed kick off due to fans arriving late. 17k attendance, which was huge then!

Twiddy the scorer as I recall it.

Blackburn Rovers needed a win to be certain of the playoffs, but ended up not even needing the win as results turned out. And then won the playoffs.

Oxford United staying up at our expense, and their game finished even later than ours!
