Pie in the sky! You’ll be waiting an awful long time before we get regular attendances of 30,000 .There is optimism and fantasy land and your idea is the latter. Who would invest millions in a stadium which would be half empty for the vast majority of the season? If we struggle next season you will understand how fickle some Argyle “supporters “can be.

We used to have crowds that size and more when the ground was not an all-seater and Sky and the likes
did not exist I was in a 40,000 crowd against Wolves as a fourteen-year-old in the early fifties.

Yep, all the oldies looking backwards always amuses me.

We had pee poor facilities, stinking bogs, 10 foot fences we had to peer through, ricketts, TB, Smallpox, a single phone if your were lucky, black and white TV and Carlisle were top of the league!!!

Far better looking forwards in my opinion, nice new Mayflower, big TV in the Zoo Corner, lovely food out the outside of the ground, improving inside, a very decent team, great owner, and the promise of a new sponsor. What's not to look forward to?

I agree but anybody suggesting we will get back to those size attendances ,even if the ground was big enough, are in cloud cuckoo land

Totally agree Oldy. Those days are long gone. We all remember the Bristol City promotion night when they announced 20,000 attendance. How all 40,000 of us laughed that night.

The funny thing about that 35-40k crowd for the Bristol City game is that it came at a time when football attendances generally were at an all time low and it was 4 - 5x our average that season and triple the average we would get in Div 2 the following season. It was a freak event when everybody with even the vaguest interest in Argyle all decided to go. I remember the queues stretching right back across the field opposite the old mayflower centre.

Lovely food outside the ground, haven’t seen that outside the Lyndhurst, haven’t seen any improvement inside either, even if you’ve got the time to queue to have a look at the offering.
Are you talking about Argyle?
Obviously the big screen in the zoo corner isn’t meant for my block’s viewing pleasure.

I think they read out the HMRC declaration figure...
The reason was that the official capacity at that time was 20k for safety reasons but the real physical capacity was 40k so they just let everyone in anyway (I doubt they even had the means to check numbers coming into the ground in real time and I dont suppose they anticipated more than 20k). I remember being very tightly packed and while nobody cared at the time, in retrospect in light of Hillsborough was pretty irresponsible really.

I remember going down the Barn Park steps so tightly wedged my feet didn't touch the ground!
Dangerous but accepted; thank goodness it isn't now.

Less than 2 years prior we had 34,000 against Derby in the FA Cup. The stadium was equally as packed for the Bristol game.

I just hope all the gumph that’s currently taking up space under the Lyndhurst /BPE corner, is relocated and the area returned to concourse. Build a movable fence, which can be placed between different blocks, depending on what the visiting allocation is, and remover the need for the 500 seat segregation…. That’s absolutely nauseating to look at when there are people who wanted tickets.

also, slightly different note. Does anyone know the purpose of the 2 or 3 rows that are covered off at the front of the corner down there?
