By prawn sandwich I mean the freebies who have no interest in football but treat the day as a chance to network and have a free day out, this is epitomised by Wembley matches, finals, internationals etc when 15 minutes into the second half the corporate seats on the half way line are still empty, because they are still in the bar. Quite what corbyn.....who I detest.....and cloth caps have to do with it I can't fathom.
Just wait for the parade, Colville will be there in his new scarf , along with the city council, one of whom was so up to date she praised Argo for finishing second! That is my beef

Not everyone may "understand the game" as well as you but your negativity towards most things is incredible.

Anyone attending Argyle for whatever reason; political, business, party, pass the afternoon, take their child is, potentially, a long term supporter/customer and revenue contributor.

My wife refused to ever go with me, hated football.

Fifteen years ago a friends firm sponsored a game. She came on that invitation ( free food and booze). She enjoyed the day so much ; banter, chants, excitement all more than the hospitality.

She is now a regular attendee with me and loves it (even chanting "who are ya" to the City fans ( where we live)).

Basically, you may "understand the game" (which I question. (Spencer!!)) but not much else.

Fair enough Frank, my riposte was based on what 'prawn sandwich' has more widely come to be known, namely the 'middle class-ification' of football.

And as for Corbyn I was posting with yesterday's lunchtime news playing away in the background. For a split second it all sounded the same, time warped voices from the 1970's

I am guessing the front seats in the steeper re aligned lower tier have to be much further back from the pitch.
It'll be interesting to see what they come up with because to mirror the rest of the ground there needs to be a walkway of some description there to aid evacuation.

Someone mentioned exits yesterday, I am guessing, like the rest of the ground, they'll be via this walkway. What I don't know under modern rules, is if Argyle can get away with just two exists for the lower section, one at either end. On the corresponding length of the grandstand on the opposite side you have three possibly even four in the same length of stand. I can only assume there won't be so many rows as the rest of the ground, thus fewer punters to evacuate.

Certainly building in 'vomitories', the correct term for the entry/exit ways between blocks will cut down the number of seats available in the Mayflower. Plus they could possibly b*gger up the space for facilities underneath the grandstand.

Plus, are they going to sink the dugouts? If they don't there will be quite a few restricted view seats behind them

Lots to think about...I guess that's why the architects and planners will take so much of the £5M

I have never quite understood the need for a large number of exits. In the event of an emergency e.g. fire in the stand, roof collapse etc, I would expect spectators to react to their adrenaline rush and get over the fence on to the pitch until such time as the crisis subsides and alternative routes are directed out of Home Park.

In planning the number and width of fire escape routes the requirements ignore any evacuation that might be taken by people jumping over fences etc. It is necessary to ensure routes that are safe and lead to a place of safety for all people regardless of age or infirmity. That is why windows are not regarded as an acceptable means of escape in commercial premises.

I remember the length of time it would take to shuffle out of the Devonport End terrace when the crowd was large. Definitely highlighted the usefulness of having numerous vomitories!

I really don't get the snidey 'prawn sandwich' comment

It's as irrelevant and anachronistic class war anthem as everything that comes out of Corbyn's mouth. Sure in an ideal world it would be nice to have the ground full of 'salt of the earth' working class men with dirt on their faces and pride in their hearts. But the world has moved on, they don't exist any more.

...and they've never really existed in sufficient numbers and for a sufficient amount of time in Plymouth to fund growth anyway. If the middle classes will spend more and turn up more frequently and reliably then damn right Argyle should target them.

The notion of some sort of greater virtue in those wearing flat caps and carrying a copy of Socialist Worker is soooo out of date now. If Argyle are getting with the times then so should the class war warriors who view corporate hospitality as some sort of malevolent witchcraft.

...and no, I never have and never will use those facilities myself.

Exactly, the days of Burt Jones bussing to Home Park before getting changed into his kit and boots, and playing in front of 20,000 flat capped dockyardies is long gone. It is no longer the pastime exclusively of the "working classes", if indeed it ever was. If the folk with money want to pay through the nose and subsidise my geriatrics season ticket, then bring it on.

One more thought. We all seem to be assuming that a large chunk of the £5m will go on architects, fees etc etc.

1) the Liverpool money, Hourihane fee and any extra income gained this season may be spent on those things and perhaps even supplement the 5m for the build. If that money was spent on recruitment, it was a small percentage. Especially as Goodwillie's wage freed up a fair bit.

2) the club is now run at a profit, so these fees may be coming out of the operating budget. I'm assuming we came up with the HHP designs and got planning permission without a substantial external investment.

Paignton....was Derby
I'm surprised there is no talk/discussion with additional income coming from fans. Buy a brick/seat. Sponsorship. It would be nice to contribute if it helped and the fans money could be seen after the stand was complete.

Good thinking derby...just one small snag!

You're talking about Janners...you know...the ones that are complaining about ST prices, matchday prices, pasty prices, bus prices...name anything to do with spondulicks and Jan Bhey will mank.
