It's just great that this project is moving forward. I don't see any reason to condemn what we don't yet know, that's pretty harsh IMO, be nice to see the layout in draft along the line,

Indeed Pete, although I rather suspect there will be a bit of a negative reaction when the images do surface.

Why?, because it can only possibly look like the existing grandstand all nicely painted with new seats in it. I get the impression that plenty of folk have allowed their imaginations to run away with itself and have conjured up something we ain't going to see.

The money will be going into the guts of the thing, not the exterior, and floor plan schematics don't so readily catch the eye in the way an 'artists impression' does.

I wish they'd address the corners would be my only disappointment. If they're putting in concrete to make the Mayflower slope right for seating sight lines, just carry it on to blend into the horseshoe.

You don't even need to put a roof over it or even seats there to start with if we can't afford them. But get the footprint done and we can add to it later...don't put a seating footprint there and it just becomes harder and more expensive later.

Would it be better for the players to enter the pitch from the tunnel be better from one of the ends? It could mean any changes to the changing rooms be done without having to change things in the Grandstand and the whole of the grandstand can be utilised for seats.

Two things to contribute.

Simon Hallett said at a Senior Greens meeting that the roof and the pillars would not change.

On Monday I had the chance to mention to JB that it would be good if the club could take a slice of the money that The Brit takes on matchdays. He said that the club fully intends to with two bars. Sorry no further detail on that but it does chime with what the OP said.

I really don't get the snidey 'prawn sandwich' comment

It's as irrelevant and anachronistic class war anthem as everything that comes out of Corbyn's mouth. Sure in an ideal world it would be nice to have the ground full of 'salt of the earth' working class men with dirt on their faces and pride in their hearts. But the world has moved on, they don't exist any more.

...and they've never really existed in sufficient numbers and for a sufficient amount of time in Plymouth to fund growth anyway. If the middle classes will spend more and turn up more frequently and reliably then damn right Argyle should target them.

The notion of some sort of greater virtue in those wearing flat caps and carrying a copy of Socialist Worker is soooo out of date now. If Argyle are getting with the times then so should the class war warriors who view corporate hospitality as some sort of malevolent witchcraft.

...and no, I never have and never will use those facilities myself.

This. Although, I would try hospitality should the occasion or desire arise.

I disagree with Smiffy that there will be a negative reaction when the images come out. I think the fact that we all know it's a refurbishment and not a new build, lowers expectations somewhat as we know it can't be a mega three tier superstand.

But... The exterior will be hugely changed beyond recognition. Even in the little things. Sparkling new seats everywhere, a realigned lower tier, no old advertising boards (how old is that Argyle.org Pasoti one??), no weeds, corporate areas, and that's without the new structures that we don't know about.

Oh there will be plenty of sniping once they release the plans. I think some people are getting ideas that £5m is going to get some kind of rebuild of the structure. Personally I am pleased the old girl will be getting a bit of a refit, a lick of paint and please sort the floodlights out on that side so they are as good as the ones over the Lyndhurst. Getting fans back on that side of the ground is going to be brilliant. Although the corporate stuff doesn't interest me, it's a nessesity in the current era with finance largely determining how far a club can go. Our crowds don't tend to hold up well when we reach our traditional high tide mark. I have my own theory about why this is. Anything the club can do to help finances will be judged favourably in the fullness of time if we can buck that trend. How much extra money can be generated remains to be seen but it can't be a bad thing.

So the roof won't cover the seats in the lower section? You cannot be serious

You'll be given a complimentary raincoat or umbrella on matchdays- the choice is yours.

The lower tier will be realigned. If it gets steeper, as is likely the case for better sightlines and more space for facilities behind it, then it will be more likely to be covered by the existing roof.

There seems to be a lot of jumping to conclusions when we have seen nothing, and have no specific details at all bar the promising titbits in the latest update.

Based on that the capacity of the lower grandstand has been reduced and additional emergency exits built there would appear to be an issue with the exits. If additional seats are being put on the old terrace this would suggest some major reconfiguration of the exits from those areas.

Gives 'em something to moan about.

No information so let's make something up...spread it around enough and it becomes fact.

I anticipate the lower tier will be completely ripped out. It has to be i guess, if it's to be realigned as the update says.

The upper tier will probably just see new seats, a lick of paint and possibly a new press and directors box. Just guessing though, can't wait to see the plans.

Unless i've been whooshed here, 'tis you that cannot be serious. Has it really been that long since the terracing and then temporary seating went away? We always got wet standing/sitting there.

Being even handed I riled against the 'prawn sandwich' comment yesterday but this is the other extreme, too MUCH towards lahdy-dah creature comforts

When the seating was there and unreserved the seats at the back got taken first because those were just about covered by the roof (with a prevailing southerly wind).

£5M wouldn't cover the cost of a roof for the moan flower.

It'll be why the pricing for the grandstand will be two tiered, pay more to have a better view AND stay dry

By prawn sandwich I mean the freebies who have no interest in football but treat the day as a chance to network and have a free day out, this is epitomised by Wembley matches, finals, internationals etc when 15 minutes into the second half the corporate seats on the half way line are still empty, because they are still in the bar. Quite what corbyn.....who I detest.....and cloth caps have to do with it I can't fathom.
Just wait for the parade, Colville will be there in his new scarf , along with the city council, one of whom was so up to date she praised Argo for finishing second! That is my beef
