It was only 8 days ago he put in what I thought was his best performance of the season against City- short memories and I think expectations are way to high!

I think he's been carrying a slight injury since Christmas.

Agreed Greenskin. He continues to be instrumental in the majority of good attacking work within the side.

The 3 behind the front man Taylor are fairly fluid. Rotating positions and switching flanks. Even Fox on occasions now rotates with attacking players to have his chance to get forward and someone else covers.

The suggestion to drop him is unfounded if you ask me.

Unfounded and leaves me dumbfounded Swimmers. We used to get similar sort of stuff when people like Tynan would go a couple of games without scoring, utter rubbish really. Still, all about opinions I guess, let's see what Derek Adams opinion is when the next team sheet is written out.

He's not at his best consistently but every player goes out of form. I think he's a confidence player - I heard an interview and he said he hadn't scored from open play for a while and seemed quite down about it. So leaving him put probably won't do him any favours. Catch 22. I also think its a bit of a case of the better you are the more the mistakes are noticed. He's done some good things and is a really important part of the team but small mistakes get highlighted all the time as they aren't expected

Carey was superb against Exeter [admittedly deep in the mists of time, exactly 8 days ago to be precise] and set up the winner against Cambridge on the preceding Saturday with a shimmy and pinpoint cross which very few players in this division could accomplish. Wouldn't say that he was terrible against Orient either-looks like one apparently mediocre game has brought out the goldfish style memory spans in abundance. Carey is a match winner and there is no way that Adams should consider leaving him unless he is carrying some sort of injury. Ridiculous nonsense.

Completely agree, DA seems ruluctant to use a 442, this for me would accommodate all our better players.
One thing from the Orient game that sticks in my mind, was Orients refusal to not alter there two up front policy, even when 1 down and under the cosh. They always had an out ball, they maintained possession and ultimately it hurt us. We on the other hand let Taylor run himself into the ground without support, our wide players were by now defending so deep, it became one way traffic.
I'm convinced a 442 would of helped and Carey in the middle where he needs to be.

I would rather have Carey on the pitch delivering an average performance than someone else starting in his place. He has the ability to change a game with one pass, something most of our other players do not have.

He was good vs Exeter and whilst Sarcevic was dictating the tempo v Orient, Carey and Fox were the ones involved in the lovely passing moves with him. He was part of a well oiled machine and again shows a level of composure that the replacements would not bring.

If ever a thread encapsulated everything that is good and bad about PASOTI and illustrated the diverse and erratic opinions of fans, this is it.

We actually now have fans calling for Carey to be dropped to the bench!

Yet just a few short weeks ago there was near paranoia amongst some of the fan base that we could lose Carey in the transfer window. Some fans thought that it could be the end of our promotion chances if we sold him and Argyle were being urged to offer him a new contact and do everything they could to keep him. Now we should leave him out?

Like any player, Carey's form will fluctuate over the course of a 46-game season, but to drop him? I don't think so.

On Tuesday night Adams fell into the classic trap of making more changes than he needed to when losing someone to injury early on. Instead of bringing on a like for like replacement as an attacking midfielder, he re-shuffled the team to accommodate Donaldson and Carey ended up a peripheral figure stuck out on the right wing.

In any situation - not just football - the art of good management is to get the best from your available resources and that is especially the case with your more valuable assets.

Again, Carey passes going astray so often that you really notice them.
Also, he seems to be taking on two players almost to prove that he is as good as Kennedy - but then coming unstuck.

Good free kick specialist - but he is not the messiah.

As others have said above;
Carey wide right .. I just don't think that position suits him.
shoehorning him in on the wing isn't a great solution
play him ... not on the wings or wide midfield as he isnt in the game enough. When playing in a wide position he chases the ball too much cos he wants to be involved all the time which in turn leads to the odd mistake in possession

... he holds onto the ball too long. He gets caught with it and leaves us vulnerable for the counter attack.

he tends to give the ball away in dodgy areas for a while now

For all his brilliant moments earlier in the season, I think both Carey and the team would benefit from him sitting on the bench for a few games.

Carey has not played well for several games. He is undoubtedly a very good player but lately his misplaced passes have cost us. He does not like to do the simple things but prefers to over elaborate and his set piece delivery is not as good as it was.

The reason Carey is a 4th division player and not a championship/premiership player is his inconsistent performances. He is the best talent we have had at the club since our Championship days (ok you could argue Conor H as well) but he is not at the sane standard as some of those midfielders back then. His has given a lot of balls away which have lead to oppositions scoring which some of his fans dont always see but I suppose he can also make a goal out of.nothing.

I would still play him if he is not injured because when the fully firing Carey comes out he is superb. I do think Tanner can cover Careys role fairly well so should be given the laat 20 minutes of a game if he is not starting

I'd drop him for a game or two.

I think he needs a break I really do.

Would it be the right thing to do? I'm not sure but IF it worked and he'd come back invigorated as the player we all admire, I'd say it was worth a chance.

Yesterday I think he was the worst player on the pitch and that's a phrase I'd thought I'd ever say.

I'd do something with Tanner and Sarcy, that may work.

GC is just not right at the moment.

Saying that, the firmer pitches will be here soon, and he seems to love that.

Agree completely, just can't afford to leave such talent out at such an important stage of the season, even though he could do with a break
