Funnily enough, I just finished reading Graham Greene's novella last week. I didn't realise that he was asked to write the script/screenplay originally for the film, but he couldn't just write the script (he was a novelist, after all): he had to write the book first to work out the plot in his head. Then he changed parts of that to make it work for the film, especially for the 'Murican market. Most interestingly, he said that the film was superior to the book.

Love that film. Up there as the best British film.
''In Italy for thirty years under the Borgias, they had warfare, terror, murder, and bloodshed, but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, and the Renaissance. In Switzerland, they had brotherly love, they had five hundred years of democracy and peace, and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock.”

Haha - Fox Robin or Man Robin? was a common question in my household 20 years ago.

I may be able to claim to be one of the first to see Shawshank Redemption. Me and the wife were in town on a rainy day and fancied watching a film. We were browsing the window billboards in the old Drake Cinema and couldn't get inspired - nothing really stood out. As I recall we almost walked away but thought we’d give a new release a go because we’d quite liked Morgan Freeman in previous roles.

We were blown away by the film and told all and sundry ‘you must watch this’. Almost walked away from one of the best films of recent times.
