Purrington on for Lolos. Telford ready to come on.

Our corner routine is different - one player in the box and six outside ready to run in.

I like the sound of that corner routine, must be a Knightmare to pick up every player.,

FT: Parkway 0 Argyle 2

Argyle record their first win under Ryan Lowe as they beat Plymouth Parkway 2-0 at Bolitho Park in their second pre-season game.

Conor Grant put them ahead with a 44th minute penalty after he had been fouled and first-year professional Klaidi Lolos extended their lead early in the second half.

Midfielder Adam Randell, 18, put in another eye-catching display for the Pilgrims in a game watched by nearly 2,000 spectators.

Observations.

We are obviously still a work in progress as most of the players adapt to a new style of play.

It's clear the ball will be played to feet, from the keeper to the centre-backs and throughout the team, long balls were very rare.

The pattern of play was build from the centre-backs or deep midfielder Randell who would feed into the feet of one striker who would come deep to receive while the other striker stays up front or makes a run.

The wing-backs played as wingers and were often in the penalty area, League Two teams will push them back.

There were plenty of good passages of play around the box without creating a clear chance and we were guilty of trying to walk the ball into the net.

For defending corners we had every player back and for our corners we had just one player in the box and 5 or 6 players outside ready to run in as each corner was taken.

The three centre-backs were sometimes spread out too wide, almost like two full backs and one centre-back, this left lots of space between them and good teams will exploit this plus because the wing-backs play so high there is acres of space in the channels for opposition teams.

It's so good to see a team play pass and move and keep the ball moving. Much of this was down to young midfielder Randell, he was very impressive and plays like Paul Scholes - neat and tidy with no fuss. I do worry that because of his lack of height he will be muscled off the ball in League Two, if selected.

Holmes made two good saves, he's comfortable with the ball at his feet, his distribution is excellent and quick and he stands quite a way out of his area like a sweeper keeper.
He's not the tallest and looks heavy, he's ok but I think we can do better.

Lolos was another youngster who did well, especially in the second half when he played out of position in Mayor's role, he finished off a great move with a cracking goal.

Mayor was distraught after he got clattered in the first half with his head in his hands. He played on so his injury shouldn't be long term. It looks like a foot or ankle injury, hopefully he's ok.

Peck did well but the defence wasn't really tested.
Telford had a 15 minute cameo at the end, he missed one good chance.

Taylor kept coming deep to receive the ball to his feet, that could be his role for the season.
Smith-Brown had a good game and has definitely bulked up.

Nothing went right for Fletcher, he's struggling at the moment and will probably go out on loan.

Credit to Parkway for arranging a very good day.

Hopefully mayor recovers. Not expecting to see him second half but does anyone know what kind of injury looked like? Dead leg?

Crunching tackle on him. He struggled with his left ankle for a bit but seem to gradually run it off and was ok after a while. Presumably it either stiffened up at half time or he was replaced as a precaution.

My thoughts.
In the end we played exceptionally well.
Massive contrast under Lowe compared to Adams, mainly second halves are completely different now where we are 2-0 up and looking for a third and fourth, whereas before we would play backs to the wall and lose many many leads playing this method which basically relegated us. So very refreshing to see us not resort to that anymore.
I think we good for next season, I was confident before now I'm even more confident. The longer the game went on the better we looked basically whereas I don't remember that being the case at all last season. Whenever we had a lead we'd always try and hold on to it and 9/10 it didn't work.
Penalty didn't look a penalty but there were two incidents before where Mayor got sandwiced, and Fletcher I think got clattered? Both of those looked stonewall penalties so maybe the ref gave the 3rd to make up for missing the other 2?
In the end a comfortable win.

Players wise: not too impressed with GK looked nervous, and against better opposition he could be another Macey tbh although it's early days probably unfair to judge him on a couple of games.
Sawyer doesn't look like he fits the system just painfully slow and can't turn.
Mayor looked ok but sure he's better than Carey or Ruben but again it's early days. Looks a good replacement for Carey because they are similar players (Left footed, set piece specialist, decent shot, can dribble past players).
Fletcher gave 100% but missed a sitter and like last season may not feature very much.
Lolos looked tidy but light-weight.
Moore looked excellent, Riley looked solid. Moore probably the better of the 2.
C Grant played LWB I think and looked good.
Telford came on and looked decent reminded me of MacLean whereas he can playmake but probably won't score much. But looks tidy on the ball which is good and can run at players.
Taylor looked decent, surprised me a bit because I was starting to write him off.
J Grant looked decent, fit, wealth of experience, and had an excellent goal disallowed for a foul I think in the build up.

Side note also tried a Denzil's and it was good but not quite as good s the Ginster's at Argyle.

At no point did Conor Grant play left wing-back. Smith-Brown played the whole game there.
