Like the look of Simpson. Big , strong and fast and looks like he could improve with age too.

If you look at his hold up play they play it into his feet.

Ennis can hold the ball up if they played it into his feet. There would be loads of good highlights of Ennis turning defenders when it’s played into his feet.

The problem is when Argyle they hit it long down the field in the air.

Tom Eaves of Hull would be a good signing at this level. Struggled in the championship but got almost a goal every other game in league one for Gillingham.

Think this player was mentioned this time last season.

Problem was l believe his wages were around 10,000. Unfortunately, too much for us currently.

It can be difficult to play it to feet. Because you have to get through all the 'congestion' rather than going over the top. But we do do it sometimes and our lightweight strikers still get bullied off the ball frequently.

Agreed.

My point was more on that players highlights. He held the ball up well. But they were mostly played into his feet.

Tom Eaves is an odd one. Yes he was very good for Gillingham but that was 3-4 years ago and he's played for numerous clubs mostly on loan where he's done very little. He's also pretty slow by my recollection, which doesn't suit our style of play.

He's 30, so not sure if I'd want him permanently... if he's still with Hull at he start of the season then maybe a loan deal would be a decent shout if could pay a % of his reported 10k a week wages.

If he got similar skills to Ennis I’d forget it. We want better and different.

But he's a targetman...!

Hmm Scrap that. He's expensive, too old and slow and done nothing for years. He won't fit our system either. So having taken a little longer to think about Eaves - it's a no from me.

Whilst Simpson is out of contract ipswich have an extension option on him of which they haven't said yet if they are going to implement. Even if rhey were going to release him if they think they can get a transfer fee for him they will extend
