1) No Chadwick or Tsoumou so Feeney up front with MacDonald in a 4-4-2 or Feeney alone with Macca out wide and Young central in a 4-5-1? Obvious candidate for the target role was S Fletcher but hey ho! 4-4-2 the option - well 4-4-1-1 with MacDonald in the hole. Rest of the team picked itself after last week. Good to see Young back in for the injured Chadwick.

2) Early mistakes by Williams and Bhas let Swindon in and they hit the bar with a firm header. Then from a clearance from a corner Bhas put in Feeney but he couldn't get his shot away. Argyle quite solid in the early exchanges with Swindon over hitting the ball a lot but having the majority of the play and the chances. Cole made a smart save and a free-kick skidded across the box but no-one got a touch.

3) Argyle hitting the ball long into channels but Feeney lacking the pace to exploit the gaps. He did hold the ball up well when he got it though. First half was another period for the defenders with Argyle again more in danger from their own midfield giving the ball away. Walton and Wotton again doing a lot of dirty work but not having the guile to create much going forward. Having sadi that, Argyle's only first-half shots a Wotton long range drive and Walton's miskicked volley.

4) Late on in first Swindon won a series of corners which Argyle struggled to clear. Williams booked for a studs up challenge right in front of Di Canio who went apoplectic. A solid first 45 performance, MacDonald catching the eye with non-stop hassling of the Swindon defence and Blanchard and Purse as solid as ever. Swindon very top heavy and worked the ref well.

5) Second sparked into life quickly. Feeney pressuring the 'keeper at one end then Swindon on the attack at the other. Argyle won a corner and Blanchard went down with a clash of heads. Swindon scrambled the ball away. 10 minutes in and Swindon made the first substitution closely followed by their second.

6) Argyle threatened from a free-kick then Young's follow up went across goal and behind the Argyle forwards. Hemmings replaced a shattered MacDonald. Almost worked right away, Hemmings shot narrowly wide. At the other end a rare mistake by Blanchard let Swindon in but Wotton cleared off the line.

7) Di Canio wound up by a couple of decisions was good entertainment. Gaps began to appear at both ends as the game became more direct. Fletcher replaced Feeney who put in another excellent performance. With 15 to go Swindon made their final change. Young won a free-kick in a good position but Williams delivery was too long.

8 ) Into the final 10, Hemmings steemed into space after clearing the corner but Bhas didn't see his run. Ever more desperate Swindon resorted to shooting from distance. Then it happend, Purse and Wotton made desperate blocks but the ball fell kindly and the gentle shot just evaded Cole. With time running out Hourihane replaced Walton.

9) Still time for 4 minutes of injury time. Fletcher held the ball up well and played in Young but his shot flew wide. Hourihane's superb ball was headed on by Fletcher but Has slipped as he shot. Then Fletcher had a weak shot saved.

10) Ref didn't really have a lot to do. One fully deserved card for Williams in the first then a soft one for Bhasera in the second. Linesman on the Arkell side in the first, Don Rogers in the second looked to the ref for decisions all the time.

11) Big, expectant home crowd. Argyle fans crammed into a corner largely apprehensive and realistic. Swindon fans got quieter as the first half went on with the Argyle support pleased with on-pitch performance. Argyle outsung the home crowd throughout until they scored. No criticsm here for the team, this was as good a performance as we've had all season - Swindon are a good Team and have won promotion by playing nice football.

So as long as we draw next week and Macclesfield and Hereford fail to win, we're staying up?!?!

Match their results and we've done it.

Hereford home to northampton, Macclesfield at Bradford, so both could win.
As I said last night Barnet drawing was a fantastic result, they face Southend before our saturday game. If they lose or draw then we will still be 3-4 points above them with 2 games remaining for them, 3 for us...

Thought as a unit we played well today, we were bossed in midfield which meant they had the lions share of the ball, I thought we were scared to go forward at times....

We had two reasonable chances at the end but we are like a rabbit in the headlights when it comes to shooting, no confidence up front is a big issue for me.

Fletcher needs service if he is to get any chance up front, cant see anyone who can cross the ball tho...

Overall probably a fair result, we gave them a game and they would not have been surprised or too upset if it had stayed nil nil...

Interesting we could not get any more tickets as they wanted to open the usual away end for their support, about 50 in there rattling around?

We're a bigger club in terms of support than them, no doubt

Anyone know how many we took up there?

Were there Argyle fans who couldn't get tickets?

Defensively ok, but carried little or no attacking threat.
Ridiculous decision by Swindon not to give us the end behind the goal. Giving it to their fans ( 50 or so) who could have sat in plenty of other empty seats in the ground cost them around 20k in lost income.
Big bust up between Purse and Walton after the goal, interesting to see what , if any, the fallout is.
Overall disappointing, but not a surprising result.

Totally agree, Feeney works very hard but is easily pushed off the ball. MacDonald needed a bigger guy alongside him today. Hemmings was a complete waste of time when he came on and looked lost playing down the middle.

Overall, a very good team performance that deserved a point but one error when Young switched off together with absolutely no goal threat up front cost us.

Cole made a good save early on but didn't have too much to do after, but I thought he might have saved the goal as it seemed to pass him in slow motion.

For the record, I thought the Ref had a good game, unlike when we had him at Stourbridge.

We are defending very well these days but the lack of goals is a real worry for next year. A freak free kick goal against Shrewsbury, a free header against Bradford, an own goal against Hereford and a deflected goal against Aldershot are indicative of our lack of any genuine goal-threat.

We cannot rely on scoring a spawny goal and then sitting back every game.

Next season we have to have goals from midfield as well as the forwards or it will be another season of struggle, although 46 0-0 draws would probably be enough to keep us up.

Agree with earlier posts.

Just to add, regarding the goal, not a direct critisim of Berry but felt he was trying to "shepard" the ball out for a goal kick which allowed the Swindon player to flick it back into the danger area, This seemed to throw our defenders and Swindon attacker responded first to slot under Cole (who nearly managed to block the shot but it went under him). Berry should have cleared and given the corner in my view but then thats easy to say in hindsight.

Agree also with seating allocation which was poor and the design of the access to the away end is poor, exit through 2 narrow doorways was a joke and if the stand needed to be evacuated quickly then god help those fans in the highest rows of the stand.

Finally, £25quid to sit in a stand and then have a row of stewards and police stand right in front of you, blocking the view of over 60% of the pitch :furious: :furious: . Glad to see common sense kicked in after 10-15 mins and the majority were removed.

All in all, well played by Argyle and based on our current positions in the division we more than held our own on the pitch. If we can keep the core of this team and add some fire power thaen we will push on next season and will look to be there abouts come next April.
