I'm not without sympathy for this POV, but can a substitution be made because you feel sorry for him? Perhaps once, but what happens at the same time next week, do you make the same substitution for the same reason?I personally would have brought on Jephcott instead of Ennis to play two up top with Hardie. Feel sorry for the lad - he’s been played out of position countless times and now gets overlooked completely, when actually he’s been our most prolific striker in the last two seasons.
There is a reason LJ (or indeed anyone else) gets picked out of position, or overlooked. It's because the player is not the manager's number one choice for, or in the manager's mind is not particularly suited to, the role he wants filled. It happens in every club in the country, that players are left out. Perhaps it's not fair, but life isn't.
I agree that there is a strong argument for pairing Jephcott with Hardie when we play our (now less favoured) 3142, but it's got to be done on merit, not on sympathy.
