Four of our recent signings haven’t worked: Wright T, Warrington, Waine, Earley (may come good), so we are carrying “passengers” in a small squad. I hope we can rectify that by moving the three Ws out, get Coburn in and strengthen the defensive midfield area.

I think we have done very well this season. Whittaker,Mumba, Azaz I’d take before the three you mentioned. Where would we be in the league without those three ?. Ok Mumba has struggled.. Championship football is a big jump and it’s normal for promoted teams to go straight back down. Cundle and Gibson seem to be the two gems we have picked up this season and as for Bundu he is starting to show he could be a great signing.. Don’t forget Hardie was out of contract last season too…
Those 3 players you mentioned were all in League one last season with Argyle. So where have Argyle strengthened? I'm not that up to date with all the comings and goings tbh

I wouldn't necessarily put Waine in with that group and I certainly wouldn't put Saxon in it, he's a real player.

So two maybe three but deffo not four.

When Saxon got the injury I looked up his record. That's the first real career injury he's had on record. Remarkably clean history considering his combative style. So I'm not sure where that perspective comes from. He broke into the team and got unlucky. Time will tell over the longer term, but I couldn't find anything to suggest that he's delicate.

When I think about it, when fit he could be a possible midfield enforcer like Matete. I think he's played midfield before too in his career. He loves a tackle and he's got a pass on him.

He's had at least 3 injuries since arriving at Argyle.

All 3 of them were sustained from contact/tackles/challenges either within a match or within training. Schuey commented himself after the injury sustained in training that he is full-blooded in training just like in the game.

It's a good trait, but not when you get injured for large parts of the season.

Just a reservation - hope I'm proven wrong.

I’d prefer no injuries of course but I would be far more concerned if he had repeat muscle injuries or one particular problem area. Seems to me the lad has just been a bit unlucky.

Don't actually get why you would want him to change position. We need someone who is a specialist LB.

Who did he play MF for?

He was a CM in Norwich's youth teams until the season before he joined us. Although he did play a handful of games there that season too.

Now we are in the championship, Comparing players from two different leagues is not easy. Would Mayor, Cosgrove and Ennis be good enough. My gut feeling is that Ennis would but he hasn’t had enough game time to be judged ..would Mayor have the legs for championship football..I would say Gibson and Cundle have definitely improved the team..Bundle,Pleg,Hayden have all done a decent job , Again championship football. Hazard is a improvement on Burton.
It’s also worth mentioning that we have more quality players on the books now.

I think our transfer dealings have been great in respect of Ennis personally... he could still be at Argyle right now with a likely improved contract eating up our budget sitting on the treatment table, but Argyle obviously didn't offer him as much as he wanted (prob based on his injury record).

Instead we've the chance to either bring in someone in permanently in Jan who could potentially become another saleable asset (like Morgan Whittaker will undoubtedly be) or maybe go back in for a good quality loanee until the end of the season (Coburn who's not currently involved in Middlesboroughs starting XI..?)

We only play with 1 striker and we were unlucky to lose both Hardie and Bundu to injury in same match and as others have said I don't feel that right now Waine is of standard required at this level (at the moment.. ), but he's young and could still turn out to be an excellent signing.

So to me we do need another striker, but this person doesn't have to be in mould of Ennis imo. Coburn would do just fine imo. I would say a good injury record (as we've a small squad) and pace is more important to the way we play than being good at hold up play (that was Ennis's strength).
there's no way Boro are going to let Coburn go in January

Not often. I saw a lot of him in the Norwich set up, because my partner's nephew was a contemporary. Its a bit different at youth level anyway.

I was only going off Transfermarkt, so that could be wrong, but up to and including 2020/21 it has him as a CM and has him wearing the number 8 shirt. They've got him down as playing from left back the season before he joined us, 2021/22, although it does have him playing in CM a handful of times that season. It looks fairly accurate to me, as there is another left back listed in those sides, but as I said it could be wrong.

Fair enough. I didn't see every game, and obviously didn't study Saxon as closely as I've would have if I'd known he was a future green!

I don't necessarily want him to change position. Just think he may be an option there if we need a ball winner and we don't get someone in Jan, when he's due to be back fit. I'm pretty sure in his intro it was mentioned he was midfield through the youth teams then transitioned to left back. Which is why he's good on the ball and has an eye for a pass.

Ah ok if your including the knocks. There's only been this one thats kept him out for a period. I can't remember exactly how it came about now, other than it was a bad foul and a contact injury. Prior to Argyle he had a clean record so not prone to muscular issues. I'm not inclined to think his fitness will be a longer term problem, but you're right we will find out in the longer term.

I agree with you, his boyish enthusiasm to get himself in the team is great and you want that, but he'll need to learn how to control it and take care of himself. I'll bet the conditioning team and coaches are working on that. He's literally green, barely played a season in mens footy. His rise is quite impressive.

I think we're in agreement. You're right about him having no track record of muscular injuries. That's good - but it highlights a different question (the one I've raised) as to why he's missed so much football for us.

I like the player. I like the combative nature. But the story is going to become very long and boring if every time he gets back into the team, he's out again through an avoidable injury.
