no idea how the standard of football compares but the population of the RoI is more than twice as big as NI so logically it ought to have a stronger league

Rory Patterson came from Coleraine having a great scoring record, didn’t work out for him, albeit we were in the Championship then. But who’s to say the standard may have improved.

I think we were in league 1 and then league 2 during Patterson's time with Argyle. The Northern Irish league is weaker than the League of Ireland. Danny Trainor was another who couldn't really cut it at 3rd tier level with Argyle after coming from Northern Ireland but several players from the LOI have done very well after moving to the English leagues. We need another body up front and Kelly won't break the bank and is well worth the gamble as he appears to offer something different.
