From what position though? I'd love him to see him come into the team and do well, but as I said in my earlier post, I can't see him getting into our team (other than us an impact sub) unless we radically change our formation/system.

As I said in an earlier post, I think he’s currently our 3rd choice left wing back. I do believe that which is why I think it’s best to let him leave, but if he stays as an Argyle player then of course I hope he remains fit and contributes to the team.

Interesting that the consensus is that Cooper would be third choice at LWB and there isn't a place for him in the squad.

In the 2019/20 season, he did very well while learning a new position at LWB while Conor Grant was pretty underwhelming as a midfielder and struggled to get in the team. Many people were surprised Grant wasn't released at the end of the season, whereas there was a bit of a clamour for Argyle to break the bank to sign Cooper. Certainly if forced to choose between the two, virtually no-one would have opted for Grant.

Just goes to show how quickly things can change in football (and perhaps how quickly fans forget). Cooper clearly has a great deal of technical ability. With another year under contract at Argyle, let's hope he can get fit and challenge for a first team place again.

Thoughts with him regarding this setback, which must be unbelievably tough for a young guy who will have staked so much on a football career.

Cooper is so over rated , he occasionally delivers a decent pass with his left foot, as a wingback he a has not a clue about defending.

This thread begins with a post indicating that an Argyle player who was a significant part of our successful promotion winning team and a major source of assist for goals in that side has suffered an injury setback and now won't be able to play this season having missed the second half of last season and almost all of this one so far. That's terrible news for the player and not good news for the club. I really can't see why people need to stick the knife into what must already be a fairly raw wound and slag the player off here - it's quite bizarre.

I wasn’t particularly happy with offering an injury prone player an 18 month contract when he’s only going to be able to play for 12 of those 18 months.

We aren’t a charity, we can’t afford to carry injured / injury prone players in our squad with our already limited budget compared to the bigger teams in this league.

Saying that, seen as George Cooper is contracted until 2023, I hope he recovers well and contributes lots of goals and assists next season just like he did in L2 when fully fit.
Perhaps. We dont know how well his recovery will go. Imagine if he cant kick a ball in anger until Dec 22.

This is why I was against us offering him a Contract. The real kick in the teeth though will be if he does come back fit and is stock rises again. I'll bet my bottom dollar he'll be arranging a move away in Jan 23 irrespective of how much he loves it down here.

Back on topic though: Never rated Cooper in league one so not really fussed if he goes. I really hope we don't do with him what we've done with Galloway though.

There's always some knuckle draggers that never see the human side of these kinds of scenarios

That would be the real kicker alright , we nurse him back to fitness then let him go to say Peterborough for a pittance where he has an excellent season ,and you know the rest.

Good luck to Coops. He hasn't been right since his return and has looked well off the pace. This explains why. Not sure he will play in green again tbh but I wish him.well.

Nice player, great touch and tactical awareness in attack with a superb left foot, has had some great assists and scored some memorable goals for us. Get fit George!

Best of luck to him in his recovery and playing for us and beating the Posh in the championship with two worldies!!

To those saying we should let him go…where exactly? No one will pay a fee!

Emotions and morals aside…

Only option open to us is to ask him to leave and saying it’s “mutual agreement”.
That would cost a fortune with no benefit.

This type of action would only really make sense as a punitive action. Like if he was being disruptive / brought club into disrepute etc.

Luckily our club is ran by more savvy leaders than a few of the “supporters” on here
