If we lose tonight, fletcher will have averaged less than a point a game this season, below his average of 1.2 points per game last season, with a fresh start...he's done worse :(. fletch out. And for gods sake not purse or wotton as his replacement!

There is another way to look at it after the first 18 games last season we had 9 points, this season after
18 games we have 18 points. You can make figures do a lot one way or another.

But surely it's incumbent on us as humans with brains that figures don't have to deem statistics relevant or otherwise? It's a bit of a cop out to say "all stats are irrelevant because figures can be fiddled with". I personally think the original stat is far more relevant than yours because the game in which you cite partly under a different manager and partly with a dire unpaid squad of kids,

The first statistic is far more relevant as they are for more favorable circumstances like we have now. A manager with more of his own squad and a not unreasonable budget. In fact the circumstances right now are a lot more favorable than in the first statistic as he has even more of his own squad, more time to build it and an even larger budget so we're actually doing worse, much worse than we did in January-May this year when we had less favorable circumstances. There's no way of glossing over it, we've got worse than we were in early-mid 2012.
