Ah! Bretonside! I can remember being very excited that the 17 bus to Bridwell Road was going to start from the new bus station. Indeed it was the first bay you came to at the bottom of the steps. Much more superior than having to queue in the rain on the Parade. I also remember that the steps were altered to British Rail Plymouth Station depth when people complained the original ones were too shallow. On a much later trip home I remember chatting to the chap in that newspaper stand who bemoaned the state to which the bus station had been allowed to deteriorate. Such a shame for a city landmark that had been hailed as state of the art. Bit like the Civic Centre.
