How about that for a crowd .....

and i was one of that crowd, almost 50 years ago, they had marching bands, police dog demonstrations and singalongs, i think we were inside Home Park before noon, The Spurs game was the 4th round of the FA cup, the 3rd round game was against West Ham and Argyle won 3-0, goals by Carter, Williams and Maloy 26,915 at that game and i was there also.

Interesting the crowds back then

40040, yes we were jammed in, i was in the Barn Park end in the corner there was a wire fence that divided the Barn Park and the section in front of what was the press section, not sure what it was called, i was only 10 so i climbed the fence to see the game.

I was in the same position for both the West Ham and the Spurs game. It was on the last step level of the terracing in front of the main Grandstand in the area now occupied by a 'box' leaning up against the wire of the fencing which protected players as they ran down a slope/steps in those days on to the pitch itself. It was both elevated and dry. The Spurs result was a major anti-climax after the euphoria of the West Ham tie, and Johnny Williams' fine goal in particular.

I remember those games very well. I was 13 and a paperboy for Mardons on St. Budeaux Square and I was late for my evening round after both of those cup matches and almost lost my job, but it was worth it! That was the first season that Spurs went on to win the double and I had a cousin who was an apprentice with them at that time. He tells me that he didn't know who he wanted to win that game but we were turned over 1 - 5. I must admit I thought we had a chance after beating West Ham 3 - 0!

Happy days :)

In reality, what's shown on those black and white clips and what's on offer today at HP are as similar as 'Chaplin' and Hangover II.

Neither's never near perfect, but only one is in threat of not even being sufficiently wanted to survive.

Some of you guys are showing your age.

I am envious. Would love to go back in time and watch us play, especially the 1930s; beating Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur was a habit back then.
