These suits that run our leagues and associations really are unfit for purpose aren't they?

The game is there for those that take part and support not you idiots.

Why did the council not give that surety?
I know Gateshead is primarily an Athletics stadium but football clubs have been there for years. Do they plan to redevelop? Weird!

These very harsh rules have been voted and approved by the EFL 72. You call them “suits” but officially they are member clubs of the Football League, one of whom is called Plymouth Argyle.

Very harsh
Make the play offs then find out they’re not allowed to take part

This is a absolute lazy headline grabbing article, there is absolutely nothing of substance, it only gives readers sound bites, no info on what details were given to the council for consideration, upon what basis it was refused, how long was the assessment process for council to consider.

Just another piece of vague flimsy journalism,

Poor Gateshead. Historically, this is something of a double-whammy, albeit 64 years apart. They were poorly treated when they were voted out of the Football League at the end of the 1959-60 season. For years Gateshead had been competing in Division 3 (North) until the Northern and Southern Divisions were merged at the start of 1958-59. In their second season in the Fourth Division they had finished third bottom of the Fourth Division and were obliged to seek re-election It was the first time since they were elected to the Second Division in 1919 (that means they had been in the League a year longer than Argyle had). Oldham below them were applying for the second consecutive season, while for bottom club Hattlepools were re-applying for the fourth time. Southport, who finished just above Gateshead were applying for the 3rd year in a row and their 7th time overall. Their average gates were 3249, not brilliant but six other teams had averaged less. No one argued with the election of Peterborough but the expulsion of Gateshead seemed unfair. Most believed it was purely their geographical position. It was noticeable that among the 22 clubs trying to be elected, 3 got no votes. Kings Lynn, furthest East, Hereford furthest West, and Yeovil furthest South. Other 'outposts' Morecambe and South Shields got 1 each.20240425_082025.jpg

The histories of Gateshead and South Shields Football Clubs are hard to follow. There have been three clubs sporting the name South Shields although one of those is a reincarnation club. In 1930 the South Shields FC of the time who were in the Football League, relocated to Gateshead and became Gateshead AFC and under that name the club remained in the Football League until replaced by Peterborough United. When the club had moved to Gateshead in 1930 a new South Shields FC was formed who would also go on to relocate to Gateshead and in doing so became Gateshead United. This meant that the original South Shields FC were able to reform in 1974 and are still in existence today. Gateshead United carried on for a few years but were dissolved in 1977 allowing for a new Gateshead FC to be formed who are the club that are now having problems today. Phew!

Thanks. Interesting. I think I have a cutting somewhere that shows South Shuelds offering to take over Accrington's fixtures in 1962 when Stanley resigned from the League. It was definitely North or South Shields.
