As far as I can see apart from being the only ex-Argyle player to be Footballer of the Year, Tony Book is also the only non-international to be chosen, although I'm happy to stand corrected on this one. 1969 was also the only year in which the award was shared - again as far as I can see.

There have been three winners of the FWA Footballer of the Year award who never gained a single full international cap.
