Hello
I spotted a post about Aiden Maher being unwell at the moment. Firstly, I
would like to wish him a speedy and full recovery and send best wishes to
his family at this time. Secondly, are you able to confirm that Aiden is
in the attached photograph, please? I believe him to be the player wearing
the England Schoolboys cap. He is sitting next to my brother, John, who is
holding the football. Aiden and John were a great partnership when playing
for St Teresaās, their secondary school, in Liverpool in the early
Sixties. Sadly, John died of coronary heart disease in Liverpool on Friday
5th August 2019. He was a lifelong bachelor and, as his next of kin,
Iāve been looking after his affairs since he became ill and making the
arrangements for his funeral. I found this photograph and it triggered
some memories which will be recalled at the service. John had trials with
Spurs and Man City but never made it professionallyā¦ he just couldnāt
force himself into Spursā double-winning sideā¦. And then they signed
Jimmy Greaves! But he played every Saturday and Sunday in the local
amateur leagues and thoroughly enjoyed his football for many years and
would often mention Aiden and that St Teresaās team. The tactics were
simple: keeper gives it to John, he carries it through the midfield, slots
it through to Aidenā¦goalā¦...and St Teresaās are Schoolboy champions
of Liverpool!
Once again, best wishes to Aiden and his family.
