Looks more like retaining walls for banking, being L shaped giving it a strong ground support to resist earth pressure from a bank behind the upright section....isn't the dressing room further back ?

Retaining wall needed because changing rooms at pitch level, taveners' building at HHP level above them. Can't have the supporters bars sliding down on top of the changing rooms.
