The Aberdeen job is another one of those that feels next to impossible because nobody will ever forget the Alex Ferguson glory days. A big club by Scottish Premiership standards, but economically totally incapable of ever challenging Glasgow's gruesome twosome.

I imagine they probably have similar recruitment problems to us as well in that getting people up there is probably not easy, compared to the relatively bright lights of the central belt. A lovely part of the world, but not for the faint-hearted.

Correct.

I watch quite a lot of Scottish football (yeah, I don’t know why either) and the Aberdeen job is a really tough one. Aberdeen fans expect European football, they expect domestic trophies and they expect to challenge for the top two, it just isn’t that easy.

In the SPL you’ve obviously got Rangers and Celtic who operate on similar budgets, then you’ve got your middle of the road clubs like Aberdeen/Hearts/Kilmarnock etc who again operate on similar budgets, and then finally you’ve got your clubs like Livingston and Ross County who operate on next to nothing.

The problem for Aberdeen is that they simply aren’t going to challenge Rangers & Celtic nowadays, and then if a couple of the smaller SPL clubs have a good season it’s easy to slip down what is a small league table.

Recruitment is also a problem for Aberdeen, as you’ve pointed out. The majority of SPL/Championship clubs are within an hours drive of Edinburgh and/or Glasgow. It’s tough for clubs like Aberdeen, Ross County and Inverness to attract players. If offered the choice of Motherwell for example (15 miles from Glasgow) or Aberdeen (145 miles from Glasgow) with similar wages, a lot of players would opt for the former.

Wayne Rooney is reportedly eyeing a return to management in Saudi Arabia after he was sacked by Birmingham City last month.

Neil Warnock is inching closer to a sensational appointment as Aberdeen boss after the club decided to appoint an 'interim' coach until the end of the season.

Steve Parish, strongly contemplated sacking Roy Hodgson after the record defeat against Brighton on Saturday but is struggling to find a replacement who is willing to take over at this stage of the season.
