I want Randell to shine if he got a chance. He can pick a pass and is athletic. But is he as combative as Houghton? Not sure myself.
The worry for me is that taking Edwards inwards weakens us. He chooses the right time to edge forward safe in the knowledge that Wilson is covering that quadrant. I don’t think we have strength on the right which is unusual. Many teams struggle with cover down the left.
For this game however I’d be inclined to put Grant in there with a Gillesphey/Galloway combination on the left.
At least we have a few options to keep Ipswich guessing.
I have no idea what formation Ipswich play but just looked at their squad, they have some very good options in centre mid: Lee Evans, Sam Morsy, Tom Carroll, Rekeem Harper. Would be a tough game to throw Randell into but happy with whatever the coaching team decide.
Galloway might be able to occupy that position, with Gillesphey coming into central defence.
But that leaves no centre-back cover on the bench (the squad is still a player short in that area in my opinion).
I reckon Edwards is most likely, although Randell needs to be given chances. If Lowe won't play Randell then he may as well go back out on loan again. There are no reserve games for him to play in so he will just be going backwards.
It's a big game to chuck Randell in especially when he doesn't seem to have impressed Lowe to date this season. He appears the most logical in as much as it's a straight swap but personally I don't think Lowe will trust him in such a key position. I think he will plump for Edwards.
It needs to be a player who can sit and protect the defence, Camara's strength is running forward so I don't think he's the best candidate.
Grant's partnership with either Mayor or Broom on the left is crucial to the team so I think it will be Edwards with Garrick playing at RWB.
Unfortunately Randell's career has gone backwards this season after much hope at the start, the lack of games and Houghton's excellent form has really hindered him.
