There's no way you can get from Stoke to Formby beach in an hour 😂....it's 70 miles & not motorway all the way...& you go nowhere near the M60.
I once drove from Plymouth to Bristol in just over an hour. Not proud of that, but don't say there's no way this can be done!

Or Cockermouth.
Obviously never heard of the poem “I wandered lonely as a cloud”.

William Wordsworth, born in Cockermouth.

Yes I have heard of the poem "I wandered lonely as a cloud" but I wasn't aware that Wordsworth was born in Cockermouth. Thank you for enlightening me.

I have to say that Wordsworth did exceedingly well to get over such a bad start in life.

Someone I know ;) drove from Harrow to Plymouth on Christmas Day morning leaving at 6:00 am and arriving at 08:45am - including a stop for petrol / toilet. Its amazing what you can do when there's no traffic....

That would be almost an average speed of 120 miles per hour. You were either very lucky not to be caught speeding or you are given to a dollop of hyperbole?
Zero hyperbole. We just left before 6:00am. That's the whole reason I said I'm not proud of it. Sometimes you go from driving a Ford Escort to a BMW 328 and want to see what the difference is.

Now retired to Uffculme near Willand!

And no traffic cops!!

I’m assuming using the M4/M5, 231 miles Harrow to Plymouth?
An average of over 84 mph. If you knock off say 10 minutes for petrol/toilet break, then that rises to almost 90 mph!!

As a retired traffic cop I love making all these calculations!!
I know, I know - the accusations of being a grumpy old git are quite true.

I can’t help loving my time enforcing the speed limits 30 years ago. It was certainly more satisfying than dealing with the tragic aftermath of fatal accidents involving excess speed.

I’m off now to watch some freshly painted walls dry 😩😩
