Penalty (did we get one last season?)

It shouldn't be overlooked just how much of an impact the losses of Cundle and Azaz were to our season.

MW and RH each have decent movement around the box and frequently manipulate space for themselves, but they need to be seen.
Devine and Forshaw came in and did reasonably well, but they definitely don't offer the level of creativity and vision that Cundle and Azaz did.
This means that the more dynamic movements of the attackers were missed more often, and it is these types of movement that rattle opposition defenders leading to errors.

Just some stats tell a tale.
Cundle (6) and Azaz (5) provided more assists than all of our other midfielders combined.
They also scored more goals than all the other midfielders combined.

The 2 penalties we did get against Rotherham and Sutton came before Cundle and Azaz left.
Coincidence?

We also must respect the difference in squad depth and quality between Argyle and the likes of Leicester and Leeds.
From our six senior options in attack, in all comps, we got 41 goals and 16 assists from four of them.
Leeds' six most productive attackers contributed 71 goals and 42 assists - more assists than ours got goals.
Leicester's six got 60 goals and 29 assists.
I know the respective sixes relevant to Leeds and Leicester played more minutes than our six, but they've respectively used a further six and four attackers during the season bringing an additional 7G/2A and 6G/5A.
Leicester also had the machine Dewsbury-Hall plundering 12 goals and 15 assists.

Our defence conceded only 3 pens (2 successfully converted) in the Championship, which puts us up there with the big boys.
So, where an argument of big club bias could be had concerning pens being awarded to us, it doesn't apply to concession.

I can't confirm nor deny your theory, but one extra factor is that the players just know how to go down.

Devine, as just one example, hasn't got a clue how to go down to win a foul.

This in my opinion, is the only downside to building a "nice" squad with our "no knobheads policy".

Compare that to Rutter, Summerville and Dewsbury-Hall, they're the kings of the tumble.
Apart from when they tried conning the ref poorly against us.

.....on commentary the other evening, the Oxford penalty taker scored his 10th penalty of the season apparently!

Is there a holiday park/hostel for retired referees in Oxford?

How about each team gets one penalty each per match to be taken any time in each half before the 40th minute mark? Would cut down on the number of 0-0 draws and add extra drama, jepordy and excitement to the games. With the right buil up music etc this could be a winner, penaties could be pay per view and takers sponsored. What with the extra betting opportunities what's not to like? Or am I just being ridiculous?

Was it this season or last season when he scored a few in one game? Some people are just lording it over us.
