As someone said earlier, one very approachable man. He gave me a great insight into his time at Sunderland and the people who were there, a period of football history which greatly interests me. He was a most eloquent man who did not have a bad word about anyone. Before he came to work here, Home Park would have been a special place for him. On 24 October 1959 it was here, in a 0-0 draw, where he was given his first start for Sunderland (by future Argyle coach Alan Brown).

Makes me feel older as I didn't realise that Martin was 10 years older than myself. You tend to remember these guys as young, vigorous, happy + smiling (Hopefully) men!
