Wilf carter scored 148 goals in 254 appearance, tommy tynan 145 goals in 310 games, Paul Mariner 61 goals in 155 appearances, Sammy Black, 182 goals in 491 games.
If you go by goals as making the man the best striker....

Surely Wilf Carter and Sir T Tynan. Shout outs to Sammy Black, Paul Mariner. Trigger and I would say also Paul Callander.

Again a very strong field but Paul Mariner and Wilf Carter easy choices for me.

I’m not old enough to remember the likes of Mariner, Tynan, Rafferty etc.

I’ll go for SEB & Hayles.

What a great partnership that was.

Bit surprised that Tynan is so far in front of Mariner although I did choose both. One of our unsung strikers was Fred Binney who single handedly stopped us from getting relegated one year.

Genuine question, but do you need to have seen the players perform in the flesh to judge them as the greatest?

Surely just by being aware of their achievements and significance, a player like Paul Mariner comes ahead of Barry Hayles. E.g. if I was a Man Utd fan, I think more highly of Duncan Edwards than Paul Pogba, surely.

Having said all that, the question is ‘YOUR greatest player’ so fair enough :p

If Ryan Hardie wins I quite Pasoti. Promise.
Must be Mariner plus 1 other. Think Rafferty looked so good only cos he played alongside him. Tough choice between Evans and Tynan from my era.

Never seen them play but Mariner & Raffery it has to based on what l heard.

Out of the ones l could choose from having watched Mickey Evans MK ll was a great target man. Dwight Marshall was one of my first Argyle loves because of the bicycle kick, l believe it was his debut, that to me was a thing of beauty.
